Is the 2025 GMC Terrain a good car?

The 2025 GMC Terrain stands out as a redesigned compact SUV with a more modern cabin and a stronger technology focus than before. Standard equipment includes a 15-inch touchscreen with the latest GMC infotainment software and Google Built-in, plus an 11-inch digital driver information centre directly in front of the driver. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, LED headlamps, and a broad suite of safety technology are also standard, while available features such as a rear camera mirror, rear pedestrian alert, HD surround vision, and traffic sign recognition add to its appeal. GMC also gives the Terrain a drive mode selector beginning in 2025, and families may appreciate the Teen Driver system that can set speed limits and maximum audio levels for individual keys.

Under the hood, the 2025 GMC Terrain uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, with front-wheel drive models rated at 175 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque and all-wheel drive versions rated at 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel drive setup uses a continuously variable transmission, while all-wheel drive models use an eight-speed automatic. Fuel economy is respectable for the class, at 9.2 L/100 km city, 8.3 highway and 8.8 combined with front-wheel drive, or 9.9 city, 8.5 highway and 9.3 combined with all-wheel drive. It can also tow up to 360 kilograms with front-wheel drive or 680 kilograms with all-wheel drive.

The Terrain’s main strengths are its comfortable ride, roomy cabin and useful standard equipment, but it is not without compromises. Cargo space is on the small side for the compact crossover segment, with 844 litres behind the rear seats and up to 1,798 litres with them folded. It also lacks a hybrid powertrain option, which leaves it at a disadvantage against some key rivals. Even so, the 2025 GMC Terrain should appeal to buyers who want a well-equipped, easy-to-live-with compact SUV with a more premium feel than many mainstream alternatives.

With 33.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find a competitively priced example.

For a used buyer, the main long-term ownership risk is that you may be choosing a well-equipped SUV that still asks you to accept modest cargo capacity and no hybrid alternative.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on well-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 780 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.60% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,562 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $35,576 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,923 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Terrain has softened enough to give used buyers more room to negotiate today. If you buy at the current average or below, you may be starting from a more favourable entry point than a seller who bought when prices were higher. For a future seller, that means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Should I buy a 2025 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.60% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the newest Terrain with the updated cabin, standard technology and the strongest modern feature set, the 2025 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may be the better path, especially if you can find a lower-priced example with the equipment you want.
