How much does the 2025 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 12.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 351 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Ford Explorer earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful V6 engine, stylish interior, and strong feature content for the price. The cabin also benefits from a more modern feel, and the technology is described as easy to use. On the trade-off side, the expert review points to a cramped third row and the lack of a hybrid or plug-in hybrid option.

For families who want a midsize three-row SUV that feels more modern without giving up mainstream practicality, the 2025 Explorer fits that brief well. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also shows a decent spread of attractive offers.

Is the 2025 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling package with strong everyday appeal, and drivers also describe it as a vehicle they can count on for its feature set and overall execution. The expert review reinforces that impression by noting the Explorer’s solid, family-friendly character and its broad set of updates for 2025.

Ford also gives the Explorer a more modern technology and safety package, which can help reduce ownership friction over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a three-row SUV with a cramped third row may not age well if you regularly need full passenger capacity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Ford Explorer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is simplified to Active, ST-Line, Platinum, and ST. The base Active is the most straightforward choice, while ST-Line adds a sportier look and higher trims bring more equipment. The Platinum is the luxury-leaning option, and the ST is the performance-focused model.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The Platinum can be optioned with a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, and the ST gets that V6 standard. All versions use a 10-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Every version gets Ford CoPilot 360 Assist+, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist plus common driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems. ST-Line and higher add Ford CoPilot 360 2.0 with a surround-view camera system, and BlueCruise is standard from ST-Line upward.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.2-inch touchscreen with Ford Digital Experience. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Google Built-in, Amazon Alexa Built-in, and a 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are part of the setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.3-litre engine is rated at 11.9 L/100 km city, 8.7 highway, and 10.4 combined. With the V6, the Platinum is rated at 13.0 city, 9.3 highway, and 11.3 combined, while the ST is rated at 13.3 city, 9.6 highway, and 11.6 combined.

Which 2025 Ford Explorer trim should I buy?

The 2025 Ford Explorer is offered in 4 trim levels: Active, ST-Line, Platinum, and ST.

Here's the short version:

• Active: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it gives you the core Explorer experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder, all-wheel drive, and the new tech and safety upgrades that define this model year.
• ST-Line: This is the best-value trim if you want the most appealing mix of style and equipment. It adds a sportier appearance, BlueCruise, and the surround-view camera system, while staying focused on road use rather than performance.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the more upscale feel and the option of the twin-turbo V6. It is the trim that best suits buyers who want comfort and a more premium presentation.
• ST: This is the performance choice, with the twin-turbo V6 standard and a sport-tuned suspension. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than outright value.

The safety-package step-up starts with ST-Line trim, where Ford CoPilot 360 2.0 and BlueCruise become standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 351 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.57% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $52,582 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $52,582 CAD sits slightly below last year's $60,145 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means sellers may need to be realistic about what the market will bear. If prices remain below last year’s level, resale values should stay under some pressure in the near term. Even so, the Explorer’s broad appeal and strong feature content should help it remain competitive with family-SUV shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Ford Explorer safe?

The 2025 Ford Explorer earns five-star side-impact ratings and four-star rollover resistance ratings from NHTSA. According to IIHS, it performs well on crash tests, with the Platinum’s headlights rated Good and the Active, ST-Line, and ST trims rated Marginal.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every version comes with Ford CoPilot 360 Assist+, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist along with common driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems. ST-Line and higher add Ford CoPilot 360 2.0 with a surround-view camera system, and BlueCruise is standard from ST-Line upward with a 90-day subscription included.

The main safety caveat is the headlight performance gap: the Platinum rates better than the Active, ST-Line, and ST trims in IIHS testing.

Should I buy a 2025 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings major infotainment and safety upgrades, plus a simplified trim lineup.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds the Tremor off-road model and an updated BlueCruise system.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the stronger value story and the biggest year-over-year update. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2025 is the better shopping target right now; if you want the newer off-road-focused trim, the 2026 is worth a look.
