Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series a good car?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe earns a 6.33/10 from our experts.

The model scores 7/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It is positioned as a relatively affordable entry into BMW ownership, and the 2025 redesign adds a bit more power and technology while keeping the sporty character intact. Standard all-wheel drive and plenty of cargo space make it more practical than its styling might suggest, but the trade-offs include uninspired styling, unintuitive technology, and a firm ride quality.

On the road, it is described as fun to drive and performance-first, though it does not quite deliver the balance or liveliness you might expect from a BMW. With 33.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series reliable?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is presented as a straightforward, well-equipped entry-level luxury car, and the expert evaluation says its available safety and driver-assistance systems performed as they should, with no false alarms or technical glitches.

Its powertrain is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with standard all-wheel drive, and the expert assessment suggests it should satisfy most drivers who want performance without stepping up to a pricier BMW. The cabin technology is modern, with over-the-air updates and smartphone-based key functionality, which should help keep the vehicle current over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a compact luxury car with a firm ride, complex technology, and limited Canadian supply can be more demanding to live with than a simpler mainstream alternative.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW 2 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2 Series Gran Coupe is positioned as BMW’s most affordable model, but the cabin and exterior styling are not especially distinctive. You should pay attention to whether the car has the features you want, because the base setup leaves some convenience and comfort items to higher equipment levels.
• Powertrain: The Canadian model uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard all-wheel drive. BMW says it can reach 100 km/h in six seconds, and adaptive dampers are standard.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system. The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. Over-the-air software updates are included, and the BMW Digital Key feature lets your phone act as the key fob.
• Fuel efficiency: Official Canadian fuel-consumption ratings are not available. The U.S. EPA rates it at 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving.

Which 2025 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series is offered in 1 trim level: 228 xDrive Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

The 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the only Canadian trim, so your decision is really about whether you want the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s mix of standard all-wheel drive, strong standard tech, and compact-luxury packaging. It is the best-value choice by default because there is no lower or higher Canadian trim to compare against, and it suits you best if you want an entry-level BMW with a sporty feel and useful everyday practicality.

The standard safety package includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system. The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW 2 Series?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 94 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.06% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,896 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,205 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,889 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favour, which can help you negotiate now but may also mean the car has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation. If you plan to resell later, the current pricing gives you a lower entry point, but future value will depend on how well the car holds demand in a limited-supply niche.

For a future seller, the upside is that BMW branding and the model’s sporty positioning can support interest from shoppers who want an entry-level luxury car. The downside is that the compact four-door format and firm, niche character may narrow the pool of buyers compared with more mainstream alternatives.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with standard advanced safety and driver assistance features such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist. The expert assessment notes that these systems performed as they should, with no false alarms or technical glitches, though the adaptive cruise control’s automatic following-distance setting leaves too much space in traffic.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.06% compared with last year.
• The redesigned model’s added power and technology appeal to you, and you want the entry-level BMW that still leans into performance.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with more power, more technology, and a lower average price than last year, the 2025 is the better path. If you are mainly shopping on value and want to stretch your budget further, keep an eye out for the best-priced listings and move quickly when one lands near the low end of the range.
