How much does the 2024 Volvo XC90 cost?

There are 176 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volvo XC90 earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out as a distinctive luxury SUV with timeless styling, a refined cabin, and a range of powertrains that includes a plug-in hybrid variant. It is also presented as comfortable, with great safety ratings reinforcing its appeal if you want a premium family SUV.

The trade-offs are that it is showing its age in several ways, its Pilot Assist behaviour is a concern, and value for money is questionable.

With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s long-running platform and its carryover status for 2024 suggest a mature, well-developed package. Its powertrain is described as lively and efficient when kept charged, and the plug-in hybrid setup can handle many everyday trips on electricity alone when used as intended.

Volvo also includes a four-year period for Google Built-in features at no cost, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and increasingly dated technology may become more noticeable over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: In Canada, the XC90 is sold in Core, Plus, and Ultimate trim levels. The Ultimate trim brings richer materials, massaging front seats, a premium headliner, an active air suspension, and a high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system, while the base trim is less lavish.
• Powertrain: You can choose the B6 mild-hybrid or the Recharge T8 plug-in hybrid. The Recharge T8 adds an 18.8-kWh battery and a 107-kW electric motor, with 53 kilometres of estimated electric-only range and 455 horsepower.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist, and the XC90 also includes large-animal detection and a notification system for moving traffic. There is no hands-free driving assistance system.
• Infotainment: The dashboard-mounted 9-inch touchscreen uses Google Built-in, with Google Maps, Google Play, and Google Assistant. Apple CarPlay is standard, and the system includes a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The Recharge T8 is rated at 8.9 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 9.6 L/100 km in evaluation.

Which 2024 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point if you want the XC90’s design, safety reputation, and Google Built-in infotainment without paying for the most luxurious extras.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to the top tier.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the richest cabin experience, including the available premium audio and the most upscale comfort features.

The safety package centres on Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assist, but it is not a hands-free system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 176 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $56,112 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $56,179 CAD sits slightly below last year's $65,124 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale upside may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. For a seller, the current trend suggests you may need to price competitively to attract attention. The XC90’s premium image and strong safety reputation should still help support demand, especially among shoppers who value style and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC90 safe?

The Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating in every NHTSA assessment except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating, and the IIHS says it was a Top Safety Pick+ in 2023.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes Pilot Assist, which pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist, plus large-animal detection and a traffic-movement notification system. The main caveat is that Pilot Assist struggled with curves, passing lanes, rural lane markings, and one highway exit manoeuvre during testing.

Should I buy a 2024 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It carries over unchanged, with timeless styling and a plug-in hybrid option.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $50,173 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $56,179 CAD average.
• It brings updated mild-hybrid powertrains and a forward-thinking infotainment setup.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $71,160 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $56,179 CAD average.
• It adds updated styling, materials, and feature offerings with improved ride and handling.

The bottom line: If you want the current XC90’s design, safety reputation, and plug-in hybrid availability at a softer price, the 2024 is the sensible target. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2023 is the value play; if you want the newest updates and can stretch your budget, the 2025 is the upgrade path.
