How much does the 2024 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 13.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 338 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Subaru Outback earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

It suits you well if you want a practical, comfortable vehicle with excellent visibility, a raised ride height, and a broad trim range that can stretch from straightforward to more premium. The trade-offs are that the base engine is underwhelming and the infotainment system feels dated.

33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s appeal is reinforced by its practical design, strong safety ratings, and comfortable ride quality. Its standard all-wheel drive and broad trim spread also point to a vehicle built for everyday usefulness rather than flash.

The base engine is described as underwhelming, but the turbocharged versions address that weakness better. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a trim that does not match your expectations for power or technology.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Convenience trim keeps the dual-7-inch-screen system, while the Premier XT gets the larger 11.6-inch portrait-oriented screen, a CD player, and the most chrome exterior fittings. The Limited trims add leather seating surfaces, while Onyx and Wilderness use Subaru’s StarTex synthetic leather. If you want the most premium feel, the Premier XT stands out; if you want the most basic setup, the Convenience trim is the one to compare carefully.
• Powertrain: The default engine is a 2.5-litre flat-four with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. XT trims and the Wilderness use a 2.4-litre turbocharged boxer four-cylinder with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The turbo setup better manages the vehicle’s weight and increases towing capacity.
• Safety package: The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centring, automatic pre-collision braking, and lane-keep assist. Reverse automatic braking starts with the Touring trim, while automatic emergency steering, blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert also arrive at Touring. The Limited trims add a driver-attention monitor, and Premier XT includes that monitor plus a digital rearview mirror.
• Infotainment: The Convenience trim retains the dual-7-inch-screen system, while other trims get the larger 11.6-inch portrait-oriented display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless connectivity starts with the Touring trim. USB-C and USB-A ports are standard on all trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 9.2 L/100 km in the city, 7.3 on the highway, and 8.3 combined. The turbo engine is rated at 10.6 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.5 combined. The Wilderness is rated at 11.0 city, 9.0 highway, and 10.1 combined.

Which 2024 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx, Limited, Wilderness, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the most affordable way into the Outback, but it also keeps the dual-7-inch-screen setup and the four-speaker audio system, so it is best if you care more about value than features.
• Touring: This is the trim to target if you want a better-balanced daily driver, because it adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and unlocks more safety equipment, including reverse automatic braking.
• Onyx: This trim adds a more distinctive look and StarTex synthetic leather, making it a good fit if you want a tougher-feeling interior without moving all the way up the range.
• Limited: This is the best-value premium-leaning choice if you want leather seating surfaces and the added driver-attention monitor without jumping to the turbo models.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the turbo engine plus the most off-road-focused hardware, including 24.1 centimetres of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and dual-function X-Mode.
• Limited XT: This is the sweet spot if you want the stronger turbo engine with a more upscale feel than the Wilderness, while keeping the Limited trim’s comfort and safety upgrades.
• Premier XT: This is the most feature-rich choice, with the larger infotainment screen, the most chrome, the digital rearview mirror, and the strongest luxury feel in the lineup.

The Touring trim is the one most shoppers should compare first, while the Wilderness is the clear pick if you want the turbo engine and extra capability.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds feature-enriched trims and trim-specific aesthetic tweaks.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $31,427 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $34,633 CAD average.
• It adds fresh styling, new infotainment and safety tech, and the Onyx Edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $39,998 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $34,633 CAD average.
• It remains a distinctive wagon with strong practicality and standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, strong safety, and a broad trim range, the 2024 is the sensible default. If your priority is spending less, the 2023 is the better value play. If you want the newer model-year alternative and are comfortable paying more, the 2025 is worth a look.
