Is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

It stands out as a large three-row luxury SUV that leans hard into comfort and prestige, while still offering everyday usability. The refreshed model adds minor styling changes, fresh colours and trim, more standard equipment, enhanced off-roading technology, and a new version of MBUX, which helps keep it feeling current.

The main trade-offs are the steep price of entry and the practical compromises around third-row seat access and touch-sensing controls.

With 42.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful share of the market to shop from.

Is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLS is presented as a refined, well-equipped luxury SUV that balances comfort, premium materials, and easy-to-use technology. Its expert evaluation also points to strong day-to-day usability, with smooth power delivery, a quiet cabin, and a well-calibrated driving experience.

Its 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder setup with mild-hybrid technology is described as smooth, silky, and lively from a stop, while the overall package is framed as rewarding to live with every day. The expert assessment also notes that the model won’t fail to meet expectations, which is a good sign for confidence in ownership.

If you buy used, the biggest long-term risk is mainly around the complexity and cost that can come with a high-end luxury SUV rather than any obvious durability red flag.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLS 450 is the most affordable version, while the GLS 580, AMG GLS 63, and Maybach GLS 600 move you up the range. The GLS 450 is described as comfortable and well equipped, and it can be optioned with packages such as AMG Line and Exclusive Trim Packages, plus an Acoustic Comfort Package. The AMG Line Package can impede entry and exit, so that is worth checking if you value easy access.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, and it delivers 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The expert evaluation says you do not need the extra power of the V8 for most driving, and it notes smooth acceleration, strong low-speed response, and an official fuel economy rating of 11.3 L/100 km in combined driving.
• Safety package: Safety comes standard, with more than 20 significant safety features. The suite includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-centring assist. The systems are adjustable through MBUX, and the expert evaluation says they operate transparently and without causing driver aggravation.
• Infotainment: The GLS uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The system includes improved graphics, Classic, Sporty, and Discreet themes, plus Navigation, Assistance, and Service modes. It is generally fast and easy to use, though touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel and centre console can be distracting.
• Fuel efficiency: The official fuel economy rating is 11.3 L/100 km in combined driving, and the evaluation loop returned 11.8 L/100 km.

Which 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 4 trim levels: GLS 450, GLS 580, AMG GLS 63, and Maybach GLS 600.

Here's the short version:

• GLS 450: This is the best-value choice if you want the core GLS experience. It delivers the smooth 3.0-litre inline six, strong performance, and the comfort, premium materials, and easy-to-use technology that define the model.
• GLS 580: Choose this if you want more power and the added capability of the available Off-Road Package, which includes underbody protection, up to 3 centimetres of added ground clearance, and improved water fording capability.
• AMG GLS 63: Pick this if you want the performance-focused version of the GLS lineup.
• Maybach GLS 600: Go here if you want the most luxurious expression of the GLS nameplate.

Safety comes standard across the lineup, and the expert evaluation highlights the GLS’s broad set of driver-assistance features as a major strength.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

It looks like a buyer’s market, with meaningful inventory and a strong share of discounted listings.

• Deal availability: 42.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 54 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 28.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $92,979 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $92,979 CAD sits slightly below last year's $129,621 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the GLS more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means there may be less room for appreciation unless demand strengthens or supply tightens.

Because the model is positioned as a high-end luxury SUV with strong comfort, premium materials, and broad appeal, it should still have a solid audience when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety comes standard on the GLS, and the expert evaluation highlights a broad set of advanced driver-assistance systems that can be adjusted through MBUX. The forward-collision warning system, lane-departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-centring assist all performed well in testing, with smooth and transparent operation.

One caveat is that lane-centring assist briefly turned off in a specific road situation during evaluation, though it otherwise handled bends, curves, and ramps without trouble.

Should I buy a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 42.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 28.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year brings minor styling modifications, fresh colours and trim, more standard equipment, enhanced off-roading technology, and a new version of MBUX.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the GLS with updated styling and technology, the 2024 model is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024’s softer pricing and strong market availability make it the more compelling buy right now.
