Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Mercedes also pairs that with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive and air suspension, which adds to the sense of capability and everyday usability.

The dependability picture is helped by the four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic and powertrain warranties. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some key features are optional, so you’ll want to confirm the equipment level on any listing before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 is more subtle and less flashy than the AMG GLS 63 or Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, while the Maybach adds chrome, power running boards, reclining rear seats, and available 23-inch wheels. The AMG version adds flared wheel arches, a more muscular grille and front bumper, prominent rectangular exhaust tips, and AMG-specific 22-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six with a nine-speed automatic and EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. It produces 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with an electric motor that can add 21 hp and 184 lb-ft in short bursts. V8 versions are also referenced for the line-up.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, Crosswind Assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Trailer Stability Assist, and Pre Safe. You’ll have to pay extra for a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, and more advanced driver-assistance features.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX system includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and natural-language voice recognition. A 13-speaker Burmester audio system and a head-up display are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the GLS 450 at 11.5 L/100 km combined, with 12.8 L/100 km in the city and 10.0 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 4 trim levels: GLS 450 4Matic, GLS 580 4Matic, AMG GLS 63 4Matic+, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• GLS 450 4Matic: This is the most straightforward choice if you want the core GLS experience with the 3.0-litre inline-six, standard 4Matic AWD, air suspension, and the best balance of luxury and everyday usability.
• GLS 580 4Matic: Choose this if you want a V8-powered step up from the GLS 450 and expect stronger performance without moving into AMG territory.
• AMG GLS 63 4Matic+: This is the performance-focused pick, with the most aggressive styling and the highest-output V8 mentioned in the line-up.
• Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic: Pick this if rear-seat luxury matters most, since it adds the most opulent treatment, including reclining rear seats and extra chrome detailing.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 GLS is the current version of the model and is aimed squarely at the full-size luxury SUV class.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $68,492 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $68,541 CAD average.
• The 2021 focuses on spacious, comfort-first luxury with three rows of seating.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year GLS with a clear market-price advantage and strong owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the better default choice. If you’re shopping strictly on price and want a very similar luxury-SUV experience, the 2021 is worth a look.
