The Lexus RX crossover SUV sticks to its core strengths by delivering an abundance of comfort and luxury while returning impressive fuel economy figures. While it may not be as exciting to drive as its rivals and its styling leaves some puzzled, it's a solid pick for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Reviewed a 2024 Lexus RX on Aug 9, 2024
Was not expecting to buy this car. Had pretty well made up my mind on another brand in the same class .Had bought that brand before. A test drive of the RX done out of curiosity before finalizing the other purchase ,coupled with a detailed comparison unexpectedly changed my mind and I never went back to the other brand. Love this car. The style, the performance ,the price and the safety features does it all for me.

Is the 2024 Lexus RX a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner approval, and the expert score is 6.17/10. The model scores 7/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
The 2024 Lexus RX puts comfort and luxury ahead of flashier ambitions, with a quiet cabin, impressive fuel economy figures, and an easy-to-live-with premium crossover character. The trade-off is that it is less exciting to drive than rivals, with fairly pedestrian performance and limited driver engagement.
Its 26.6% good-or-great deal share suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find if you shop carefully.
Is the 2024 Lexus RX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The RX is presented as a comfort-first luxury crossover with a reputation for refinement, and the expert assessment reinforces that it is built around easy ownership rather than drama. Its powertrain lineup is broad, and the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions add efficiency-focused options that can suit different driving needs.
The performance notes also point to a vehicle that is tuned for smooth, predictable operation rather than complexity or fuss. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright capability and more about choosing the version that best matches your needs, since the lineup spans several very different powertrains.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Lexus RX?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin gets more inviting in higher-priced packages, where faux suede inserts in the seats, doors, and roof pillars add a softer feel. The base setup is more restrained, while the richer trims also pair with the larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen.
- Powertrain: The RX 350 uses a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, while the RX 350h hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder setup. The RX 500h F Sport Performance adds more power, and the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid adds an 18.1-kWh battery pack and up to 60 kilometres of electric-only range.
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a rear passenger safe-exit system, and parking proximity sensors. A head-up display, digital rearview mirror, surround-view camera system, semi-automated parking system, and highway driving assist are available.
- Infotainment: Lower-priced configurations get a 9.8-inch touchscreen, while higher-end models use a 14-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the system also supports cloud-based navigation with a three-year free trial.
- Fuel efficiency: The base RX 350 is estimated at 9.9 L/100 km combined, the RX 350h at 6.5 L/100 km combined, the RX 500h at 8.6 L/100 km combined, and the RX 450h+ at 2.8 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined.
Which 2024 Lexus RX trim should I buy?
The 2024 Lexus RX is offered in 4 trim levels: RX 350, RX 350h, RX 500h F Sport Performance, RX 450h+.
Here's the short version:
- RX 350: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core RX experience with standard all-wheel drive, the turbocharged 2.4-litre engine, and the full Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite. It suits you if you want the least expensive way into the model and value comfort over speed.
- RX 350h: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it adds the hybrid powertrain and a major fuel-economy advantage while staying close to the base model’s mission. If you want the most sensible balance of efficiency and everyday luxury, this is the one to target.
- RX 500h F Sport Performance: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the most power in the lineup and a sportier character than the supporting trims. It makes sense if you want the strongest acceleration and are willing to pay for it.
- RX 450h+: This is the plug-in hybrid choice, and it is the priciest model in the lineup. It suits you if you can charge regularly and want the longest electric-only driving capability in the range.
Some safety features are standard across the range, while others such as the surround-view camera system, semi-automated parking system, and highway driving assist are available rather than included on every trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Lexus RX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 188 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $55,760 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Lexus RX's resale value?
The current average of $55,957 CAD sits slightly below last year's $61,795 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The RX’s comfort-first appeal and efficiency-focused reputation should still support demand among shoppers who want a refined luxury crossover. Even so, the current trend suggests resale value is being shaped more by market conditions than by scarcity.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Lexus RX safe?
The 2024 Lexus RX earned five-star ratings in overall and side collision protection and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover tests from NHTSA. The IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick, but it also rated the moderate frontal overlap test as Poor.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a rear passenger safe-exit system, and parking proximity sensors. Available features include a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, surround-view camera system, semi-automated parking system, and highway driving assist.
The main caveat is the Poor IIHS result in the moderate frontal overlap test, which is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2024 Lexus RX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the RX formula focused on comfort, luxury, and efficiency.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $50,560 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $55,957 CAD average.
- The 2023 is a polished, well-rounded luxury crossover with a comfortable cabin and strong technology.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend and the current RX’s comfort-first character, the 2024 is the better all-around target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
