It stands out because it wraps useful truck-like versatility in a compact, quirky package, with plenty of utility for its size and a stylish design that helps it feel distinctive rather than purely practical. It also brings a peppy powertrain and Hyundai’s strong warranty, which makes it appealing if you want extra peace of mind.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Santa Cruz is available in Preferred and Ultimate trims in Canada. The Ultimate adds a more complete equipment set, while the Preferred can be upgraded with the Trend Package for more features. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to what is missing before deciding.
• Powertrain: Canadian units use the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 282 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and AWD. It is described as surprisingly peppy, with smooth shifts and easy passing power.
• Safety package: All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. Adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection are optional on the Preferred trim’s Trend Package.

Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Santa Cruz formula with the turbocharged powertrain, AWD, and the standard safety suite. It makes the most sense if you want the Santa Cruz experience at the lowest price and are willing to skip some convenience and luxury extras.
• Ultimate: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete version of the Santa Cruz. It adds the richer equipment mix, including Hyundai’s Highway Drive Assist, the blind-spot view monitor, and wireless charging, making it the better pick if you plan to keep the truck for daily use and want the most features.

All trims get the standard driver-assistance suite, while the Preferred can add more advanced safety tech through the Trend Package.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 204 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.85% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,671 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $36,159 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,560 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. If the market continues to normalise, resale values could remain under pressure compared with the model’s earlier pricing.

Even so, the Santa Cruz’s distinctive styling, strong warranty, and broad appeal as a compact utility vehicle should help it hold interest among shoppers who want something different from a conventional pickup. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns five-star ratings in front crash and four-star ratings in rollover from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai offers a pretty comprehensive set of advanced driver-assistance systems. All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. The Ultimate adds Hyundai’s Highway Drive Assist, which pairs adaptive cruise control and lane-centring, plus the blind-spot view monitor.

A key caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been rated by IIHS. The 2023 model’s testing also showed weaker headlamp performance, though the 2024 Santa Cruz now has Bi-LED projector headlamps standard across all trim levels.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same useful compact-truck formula, with a peppy powertrain and strong warranty.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $38,477 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $36,159 CAD average.
• It adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and the core package remains appealing. If you are willing to pay more for newer tech and updates, the 2025 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2024.
