Is the 2024 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Hyundai Kona earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

The 2024 Kona is all-new, with a new look, new technology, and a new price tag, and it aims to balance style, equipment, and value in the subcompact SUV segment. Its strongest points are its breadth of powertrain choices, impressive technology, and standard advanced safety features.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and cabin practicality is not perfect because there is not enough covered storage inside.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Kona’s all-new generation builds on Hyundai’s reputation for packing in useful technology and safety equipment, which can support confidence in everyday ownership. Its standard feature set and modernised design also suggest a vehicle built to meet current buyer expectations rather than rely on outdated hardware.

The 2.0-litre base engine and available turbocharged setup give you a straightforward, mainstream mechanical layout, which can be reassuring for used buyers. Long-term ownership risk should be manageable if you choose a well-maintained example and verify that the vehicle’s tech and safety systems work as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Essential trim gets the new look and standard LED lighting, but the Preferred adds more equipment and the N Line brings the sportier appearance and higher-end wheel sizes.
• Powertrain: The Essential and Preferred use a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and a CVT, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Hyundai Highway Driving Assist is the named semi-autonomous suite, and standard safety tech includes Safe Exit Warning, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and high-beam assist. Adaptive cruise control starts from the Preferred trim, while the N Line’s Ultimate package adds Surround View Monitor and blind-spot view monitor.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all trims in Canada except the N Line with the Ultimate package, OTA update capability, and Bluelink connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 8.1 L/100 km in the city, 6.8 on the highway, and 7.5 combined with FWD; AWD changes those figures to 8.8/8.1/8.5. The N Line AWD is rated at 9.7 L/100 km city, 8.3 highway, and 9.1 combined.

Which 2024 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Kona is offered in 3 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, and N Line.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, and it gives you the new-generation Kona’s core design, standard LED lighting, and the 12.3-inch touchscreen without pushing the price too high.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience equipment while also unlocking adaptive cruise control.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine, the sportier look, and the most upscale presentation in the lineup.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, with adaptive cruise control starting on Preferred and the N Line Ultimate package adding extra camera-based driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 805 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,140 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $27,141 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,607 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward from the prior year, which can make the Kona more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the Kona is all-new and well equipped, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest from shoppers who want modern features without paying new-car money. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2024 Hyundai Kona earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai Highway Driving Assist is the named driver-assistance suite, and the Kona also comes with Safe Exit Warning, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and high-beam assist. Adaptive cruise control is standard from the Preferred trim, while the N Line Ultimate package adds Surround View Monitor and blind-spot view monitor.

The safety story is especially strong because Hyundai has made advanced driver-assistance features broadly available across the lineup. That said, the extra camera-based features are reserved for the pricier N Line Ultimate package, so you may need to shop higher in the range if you want the fullest safety tech set.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The all-new generation brings a new look, new technology, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,155 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $27,141 CAD average.
• It stays mostly unchanged while adding a more spacious cabin and generous cargo area.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2024 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong equipment and broad market availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer listing and prefer the next model year’s unchanged but still appealing package, the 2025 is the secondary path.
