How much does the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 5.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 302 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — with a 4.33/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD looks like a strong heavy-duty pickup choice. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its strong performance, ride quality, and appearance, and they also like the range of options available. The main trade-off is that some shoppers feel it is overpriced and want more advanced features and technology.

That lines up with the truck’s broader appeal: it is aimed at buyers who want heavy-duty capability without giving up too much everyday usability. Even so, the market shows 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as strong, dependable, and capable of handling demanding use. The expert road test also backs up that impression by highlighting how the diesel powertrain feels well-mated to the transmission and how smoothly it operates in daily driving.

Chevrolet also includes a 3-year/60,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 5-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which helps reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is making sure the truck has been maintained properly, especially if it has been used for towing or hard work.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Work Truck is the plainest version, while the Custom adds a body-coloured grille bar, the LT brings a chrome bar, and the LTZ and High Country add more chrome and C-shaped headlamps. The ZR2 stands apart with a blacked-out grille and Chevrolet “flow tie” badging, and the base work-truck setup is the one most likely to feel light on features.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.6-litre V8 gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or an optional 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. Both use an Allison 10-speed automatic, and the diesel is described as quiet and smooth.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control is optional on all trims, and GM’s Safety Seat is another useful feature to look for.
• Infotainment: Starting on the LT trim, you get a 12.3-inch configurable gauge cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Google built-in, and the system also supports a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: In testing, the truck returned 11.6 litres per 100 kilometres in 2WD over about 150 kilometres, and 13.8 L/100 km over a 400-kilometre mix of 2WD and Auto 4WD.

Which 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 6 trim levels: Work Truck (or WT), Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic choice, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need much in the way of comfort or visual polish.
• Custom: This adds a body-coloured grille bar and is a better pick if you want a little more style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• LTZ: Choose this if you want a more upscale look and feel, with more chrome and a stronger premium presentation.
• High Country: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the richest cabin materials and the most polished overall feel.
• ZR2: This is the one to buy if off-road ability matters most, especially with the Bison package and its serious hardware for dirt and rocks.

The safety package is still fairly limited on lower trims, so it is worth checking carefully which driver-assistance features are included on the specific truck you are considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 302 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.23% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $68,505 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $68,565 CAD sits slightly below last year's $72,352 CAD.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened enough to give used buyers some leverage today. For a future seller, it means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, trim, and equipment than it would be in a stronger market.

Because the current average is still close to the year-round low, there may be less room for further near-term depreciation than the year-over-year drop suggests. Well-equipped trucks with desirable features should hold buyer interest better than stripped-down examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. GM’s Safety Seat is also a useful extra to look for, and the truck includes Buckle to Drive and Teen Driver features in its settings menu.

A key caveat is that not all advanced safety features are standard, and adaptive cruise control remains optional even on higher trims. That means you should verify the exact safety equipment on any used example before you buy.

Should I buy a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• This year’s refresh brings better styling and a new off-road trim that moves it closer to its main rival.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this heavy-duty truck, the 2024 is the one to target because it adds styling improvements, stronger tech, and a more compelling off-road option. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024’s softer pricing and broader appeal make it the better all-around shopping target right now.
