How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

There are 267 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

It is presented as an affordable and versatile choice for you if you want a new set of wheels that stays within reach. The Jetta’s ride and handling are a highlight, and the cabin is comfortable, which fits its everyday, value-focused role well.

The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, performance is sluggish, and all-wheel drive is not available.

With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding attractive value in the market.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Jetta is described as a practical, comfortable sedan with impressive safety features, and its overall package is aimed at buyers who want dependable everyday transportation rather than excitement. Its standard powertrain is straightforward, and the car’s soft, compliant suspension and predictable handling support easy daily use.

The powertrain is described as turbocharged and responsive enough for normal driving, but the automatic can hesitate before acceleration arrives. Volkswagen also includes Car-Net access with four years of complimentary Remote and Safe & Secure feature plans, which adds useful ownership convenience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the same drivability quirks and feature differences across trims can make some examples feel less satisfying than others.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with standard 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Highline adds a more upscale cabin with ambient lighting, genuine leather upholstery, an oversized power sunroof, and larger screens. The base model is the most stripped-back choice, so you should check whether the features you want are included before you buy.
• Powertrain: The Jetta uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is standard on Trendline and Comfortline, while the Highline uses an eight-speed automatic; all-wheel drive is unavailable.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Comfortline adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Travel Assist, while Emergency Assist can bring the car to a safe stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.
• Infotainment: Highline trim upgrades to a 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. It also adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Car-Net connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The official Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption rating for the Comfortline and Highline is 7.1 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and testing returned 7.8 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, and GLI.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Jetta’s core value proposition at the lowest price. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the model and do not need the extra convenience and safety features found higher up.
• Comfortline: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Travel Assist. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on.
• Highline: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale Jetta experience. It adds the larger digital cockpit, bigger infotainment screen, wireless smartphone integration, and a more premium cabin feel.
• GLI: This is the sporty outlier in the range, with added power and more rewarding driving dynamics. It is for you only if you specifically want the performance-focused version rather than the standard Jetta formula.

Comfortline is the trim where the safety package becomes meaningfully richer, while Highline brings the most premium technology and cabin upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.53% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,772 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $21,794 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,205 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values do not rebound. The Jetta’s current affordability and practical appeal should help support demand, especially among shoppers looking for a sensible compact sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The Jetta earns five-star overall safety ratings from NHTSA, but it earns four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the Jetta’s safety as Poor in a new moderate overlap frontal-impact crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. On Comfortline, you also get blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Travel Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist into a semi-autonomous driving aid. Emergency Assist is another notable feature, and it can stop the car and activate the hazard flashers if it detects an unresponsive driver.

The main caveat is that the Jetta’s crash-test performance is mixed, so you should weigh its strong active-safety tech against that weaker result.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers affordable, versatile transportation with strong ride comfort and useful safety tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,703 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $21,794 CAD average.
• It is a mild but value-minded refresh with upgraded technology and more standard features.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, inventory, and everyday usability, the 2023 is the better default choice. If your priority is shaving a bit more off the purchase price, the 2022 is worth a look because it keeps the same value-minded formula while costing slightly less.
