How much does the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback cost?

Prices have softened 9.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 85 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

It stands out for combining a compact footprint with extra practicality and a more distinctive look, and Toyota’s own test-drive summary highlights that it is more than 26 centimetres shorter than a Corolla Sedan while offering over 130 litres more cargo space. The pros also point to stylish design, impressive technology, and great safety ratings.

The trade-offs are clear: the cons call out uninspired performance and irritating driving aids, so you should not expect it to be the most exciting choice in the class. If you want a compact hatchback that prioritises everyday usefulness, style, and tech over driving thrills, it fits that brief well.

18.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Corolla Hatchback is described as refreshingly simple and easy to drive, and it is also presented as technologically advanced and safe in a collision. The expert test-drive notes also say it is likely to keep running strong for years, perhaps decades, as long as you take good care of it.

Toyota’s performance content supports that dependable character by describing a straightforward 2.0-litre four-cylinder setup with a CVT and a chassis tuned for everyday use. If you are buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s driving aids and powertrain character will suit your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE and XSE trims differ in equipment, and the XSE adds features that the SE does not get standard, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The cabin is simple and well finished, but the infotainment system does not include a radio tuning knob.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT that uses a physical launch gear and stepped ratio changes. Front-wheel drive is standard, and the car offers Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision system with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, road-sign assist, and automatic high-beam headlight control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XSE and optional on SE.
• Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen comes with dual-smartphone Bluetooth pairing, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and over-the-air software updates. Drive Connect adds cloud-based navigation, Google points of interest, Destination Assist, and Intelligent Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: With XSE trim, the Corolla Hatchback earns a Natural Resources Canada fuel economy rating of 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving. The test vehicle averaged 7.9 L/100 km on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and XSE.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Corolla Hatchback formula at the lowest price. It is the trim to focus on if you want the hatchback’s practicality and tech without stretching for extras, but note that blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional rather than standard.
• XSE: This is the better-equipped choice and the one that best matches the car’s strengths. It adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, plus an eight-speaker JBL premium audio system, making it the best-value trim if you want the most complete version of the Corolla Hatchback.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XSE and optional on SE.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find reasonable opportunities.

• Deal availability: 18.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 85 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $24,721 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $24,953 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,504 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can ask in the near term. If prices remain softer, resale values may stay under pressure compared with last year’s level. Even so, the model’s practical packaging, strong safety reputation, and broad appeal should help support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback safe?

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback earns a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, road-sign assist, and automatic high-beam headlight control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XSE and optional on SE.

The main caveat is that the system behaviour can be irritating in use, especially the lane-centring assist and adaptive cruise control, which were described as overly intrusive during testing.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 18.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model adds next-generation Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and brings over 130 litres more cargo space than a Corolla Sedan in a shorter body.

The bottom line: If you want the Corolla Hatchback’s best mix of practicality, safety, and technology, the 2023 is the one to target. If you are mainly shopping on price, a lower-priced listing from this year can still make sense, especially if you find one near the low end of the range and the equipment level suits your needs.
