How much does the 2023 RAM 2500 cost?

Prices have softened 13.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 446 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 RAM 2500 earns 4.2/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts, which points to a truck that lands well with shoppers who want capability without giving up comfort. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its power, comfort, towing usefulness, and utility-focused value, while also appreciating the technology and luxury touches. The overview also frames it as a heavy-duty pickup that feels more usable and accommodating than many rivals, especially if you want a truck that can still work as an everyday vehicle. Trade-offs include a flimsy column shifter and difficult entry and exit, and the turbodiesel option is expensive. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback describes it as powerful, comfortable, and well suited to towing and utility use, with many shoppers also valuing the technology and luxury touches. The reliability conversation is more mixed, though, because some owners raise concerns about the transmission even while still saying the truck meets their needs well. The expert drive notes also describe the truck as refined and surprisingly docile in daily use, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable long-term hauler if you choose carefully and verify maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 RAM 2500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Rebel sits apart from the Power Wagon with a cleaner look, 20-inch wheels, and no graphics, badging, or integrated winch, while the broader lineup also includes Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. If you want the most distinctive off-road-focused setup, the Rebel’s equipment and appearance are the key differentiators to check.
• Powertrain: You can get a standard 6.4-litre V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, or an available 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel inline-six with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. The V8 is the better choice if you want maximum towing and payload, while the diesel is the more efficient-feeling option but comes with a much higher price.
• Safety package: The truck can be equipped with automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking including for trailer brakes, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Make sure the truck you’re considering has the driver-assistance equipment you want, because the test truck had them all but not every used example will.
• Infotainment: Look for the 12-inch touchscreen and the 12-inch digital instrumentation panel, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the available blind-spot cameras and digital rearview mirror. The system is feature-rich, but the display and surrounding gloss-black trim can be distracting in bright light.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck’s Cummins diesel showed 12.3 L/100 km on mostly highway driving, 14.6 L/100 km on mountain roads, and 16.0 L/100 km off-road. The 6.4-litre V8 was notably thirstier in the same conditions, so fuel use is a meaningful ownership consideration.

Which 2023 RAM 2500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 RAM 2500 is offered in 7 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Power Wagon, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the work-focused starting point, so it makes sense if you want the basics and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• Big Horn: This is the sensible step up if you want a little more everyday comfort and convenience without chasing the highest-priced trims.
• Rebel: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest mix of off-road hardware, distinctive styling, and everyday usability. It adds the aggressive look, off-road tyres, skid plates, and available diesel powertrain while still feeling more livable than the more extreme Power Wagon.
• Power Wagon: Choose this if your priority is maximum off-road character and you want the most purpose-built trail setup in the lineup.
• Laramie: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin and a stronger luxury lean without going all the way to the top trims.
• Limited Longhorn: This suits you if you want a more premium, western-themed feel and a richer interior presentation.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want the most upscale version of the truck and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment varies by truck, so confirm the driver-assistance content on any used example before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 RAM 2500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 446 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $68,389 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 RAM 2500's resale value?

The current average of $69,189 CAD sits slightly below last year's $79,857 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy now, you may be entering at a softer point in the cycle than owners who purchased a year ago. For resale, the truck’s strong capability and broad appeal should help, but heavy-duty pickups can still be sensitive to condition, equipment, and how well they were maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 RAM 2500 safe?

The 2023 RAM 2500 does not have crash-test ratings listed here, so the safety story centres on its available driver-assistance equipment and expert evaluation. It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ram offers a broad suite of advanced driver-assistance systems on this truck, including automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking including for trailer brakes, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The test truck had them all, and the systems proved useful on wide two-lane highways. The main caveat is that the expert notes do not confirm how well the aids behave in denser traffic or on multi-lane roads, so you should test them yourself if that matters to you.

Should I buy a 2023 RAM 2500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings a new 12-inch digital instrumentation panel, blind-spot cameras, and Trailer Reverse Steering Control, which make it especially appealing if you want newer trailering tech.

The bottom line: The 2023 RAM 2500 is the better pick if you want a heavy-duty truck that mixes capability, comfort, and newer technology, especially in Rebel form. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2023’s softer pricing and updated equipment make it a strong year to target.
