Is the 2023 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.7/5, and the expert rating is 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

The trade-offs are a small back seat and some minor feature issues, while the expert review notes that advanced safety features are not standard and the competition offers more technology.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfortable ride, solid performance, and good fuel economy for its size. That combination suggests you can count on it to deliver the kind of refined ownership experience many used-truck shoppers want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim range runs from Tradesman to TRX, with the Limited sitting near the top. Lower trims miss some of the upscale touches and equipment found higher up, while the Limited adds a more premium cabin with leather, open-pore wood, and a 12-inch portrait-oriented screen.
• Powertrain: You can get rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with a 3.6-litre V6, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel, or a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 in the TRX. The eTorque mild hybrid system improves fuel economy and adds extra low-speed torque.
• Safety package: The truck does not come with standard advanced driver-assist systems, and even forward collision warning is not standard. Blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional or bundled, so check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get a 5-inch screen, mid trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and upper trims can have a 12-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the available setup can add a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and surround-view camera system.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setup is the 3.0-litre turbo diesel at 11.1 L/100 km city, 8.0 highway, and 9.7 combined. The V8 4WD eTorque test truck is rated at 13.5 L/100 km city, 10.5 highway, and 12.1 combined.

Which 2023 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the least expensive path into the lineup, but it is also the most basic. It makes sense if you want the RAM 1500’s core ride and capability without paying for premium cabin materials or extra tech.
• Big Horn: This is the first trim where you can start balancing price and equipment more comfortably. It should suit you if you want a more everyday-friendly truck without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more distinctive appearance and a step up in presentation while staying below the luxury-focused trims.
• Rebel: This is the trim to consider if you want the off-road-oriented character explicitly called out in the review, including a 2.5-centimetre lift, skid plates, and hill-descent control.
• Laramie: This is a strong middle-ground choice if you want more comfort and a more premium feel without going all the way to the upper luxury trims.
• Limited Longhorn: This trim leans into a more upscale, distinctive cabin and is a good fit if interior ambience matters a lot to you.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim if you want the most polished mix of luxury, tech, and comfort. The review model’s leather, wood trim, 12-inch portrait screen, and available equipment package make it the standout choice for many shoppers.
• TRX: This is the high-performance, off-road-focused flagship with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8. It is for you if outright capability and extreme character matter more than efficiency or price.

Safety-wise, the truck’s advanced driver-assist features are not standard, so verify the exact package on any used example before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,332 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,045 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $41,055 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,770 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale upside if you sell soon. If you buy near the current average, you are starting from a lower baseline than last year’s sellers did.

For a future seller, the key question is whether the truck’s comfort and premium appeal continue to hold demand. A well-equipped example with strong condition and desirable features should still attract attention, but the softer market means you should not expect a quick rebound in value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 safe?

The Ram 1500 earns Good marks across the board from IIHS except for Marginal grades for seat belt reminders and LATCH ease of use, and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content also makes clear that advanced driver-assist systems are not standard, and even forward collision warning is not included across the board. Blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional or bundled, so you should check the exact equipment on any used truck you are considering.

That means the truck’s crash-test results are solid, but its standard safety equipment is a weak point compared with some rivals. If safety tech matters a lot to you, focus on examples that include the relevant driver-assistance package.

Should I buy a 2023 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds a new available reconfigurable 12-inch gauge cluster.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,094 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,055 CAD average.
• It is described as a strong truck that blends design, comfort, utility, technology, and driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the better-supported shopping case, the 2023 is the safer pick because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction remains strong. If you are focused mainly on saving money, the 2022 is worth a look, especially if you find one with the comfort and safety equipment you want.
