Is the 2023 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 RAM 1500 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise the upscale interior, comfortable ride, and solid performance. They also frequently mention the truck’s stylish design and good fuel economy for its size.

The trade-offs are a small back seat and some minor issues with specific features. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want a full-size truck that feels more refined than purely utilitarian.

With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still a decent amount of value-oriented inventory to choose from.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling truck with an upscale cabin, comfortable ride, and solid performance that owners feel good about living with over time. The same feedback also highlights good fuel economy for its size, which can help make day-to-day ownership feel more manageable.

The expert review also describes the Ram as a truck that remains a viable option thanks to its classy design and smooth ride. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some desirable equipment is not standard, so you’ll want to verify the exact feature set on the truck you’re considering.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim walk runs from Tradesman to TRX, and the lower trims are where you’re most likely to miss out on the more upscale cabin materials and the larger portrait-style screen found on higher versions.
• Powertrain: You can find rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with a standard 3.6-litre V6 on lower trims, an optional 5.7-litre Hemi V8 on lower trims and standard on upper trims, and a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel available on most trims. The V8 and diesel bring stronger torque, while the eTorque system is aimed at better fuel economy and smoother stop/start operation.
• Safety package: Forward collision warning is not standard, and blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional or bundled in packages. If you tow, the trailer-capable blind-spot monitoring is especially worth seeking out.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get a 5-inch screen, mid trims typically use an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and upper trims can have the available 12-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and higher trims can add a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and surround-view camera system.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 4WD eTorque setup is rated at 13.5 L/100 km city, 10.5 highway, and 12.1 combined, while the 3.0-litre turbo diesel returns 11.1 L/100 km city, 8.0 highway, and 9.7 combined.

Which 2023 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the least expensive path into the lineup, but it’s also where you’re most likely to feel the feature gaps versus higher trims, especially in cabin presentation and available tech.
• Big Horn: A sensible step up if you want a more balanced everyday truck without jumping too far in price.
• Sport: Best if you want a more distinctive look while staying in the mainstream part of the range.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented trim with a 2.5-centimetre lift, skid plates, and hill-descent control.
• Laramie: A strong middle-ground choice if you want more comfort and a more premium feel without going all the way to the top trims.
• Limited Longhorn: Best for shoppers who want a more upscale cabin and a richer interior presentation.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for buyers who care most about premium materials, the 12-inch portrait-oriented screen, and available tech upgrades.
• TRX: This is the extreme performance choice, with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and serious off-road hardware.

The safety content also notes that advanced driver-assist systems are not standard, so it’s worth checking the exact package content on any trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,323 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,032 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $41,044 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,832 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The current year-round range suggests there is still room for values to move around, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2023 Ram 1500 earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, while IIHS gives it Good marks across the board except for Marginal grades for seat belt reminders and LATCH ease of use.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Ram 1500 falters a bit on standard advanced driver-assist systems. Nothing is standard across the board, not even forward collision warning. Other features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning are all either optional or part of a package.

If you do add blind-spot monitoring, it can cover the length of any trailer you might be dragging behind you. That’s a useful feature if you plan to tow regularly, but the lack of standard safety tech is still something to keep in mind when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2023 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its smooth ride, premium interior materials, and strong powertrain.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,106 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,044 CAD average.
• It is presented as a polished, comfort-focused truck with strong owner praise.

The bottom line: If you want the better current-market mix of price softness, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2023 is the safer default. If your priority is spending a bit less up front, the 2022 is the more price-sensitive path and still keeps the Ram’s comfort-first appeal.
