How much does the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?

Prices have softened 10.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 172 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 earns 4/5 from owners and 8.17/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

You get an upscale interior, sharp and refined handling, and acceleration that feels more premium than many compact cars. The hatchback body style also adds helpful cargo space and a rear liftgate, so it can cover a lot of the everyday jobs you might otherwise assign to a small SUV.

The trade-offs are clear: the infotainment system is frustrating to use, and the large C-pillar hurts rear visibility. If you want a compact car that feels polished and versatile rather than basic, this model fits that brief well.

33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 is presented as a car that balances refined driving manners with everyday usability, and its expert assessment reinforces that it feels well sorted rather than rough around the edges. Its performance tuning is described as communicative and engaging, with a ride that remains comfortable for daily commuting.

That said, the ownership experience can be affected by the frustrating infotainment interface and the hatchback’s poor rear visibility, both of which can make day-to-day use less pleasant than the mechanical package suggests. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is living with those usability drawbacks every time you drive.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX starts with 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, pushbutton start, keyless entry, two USB ports, and an 8.8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GS adds dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, while the Luxury package brings synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a moonroof. The GT adds the GS Luxury package features plus 18-inch alloy wheels, paddle shifters, a head-up display, navigation, and genuine leather upholstery.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 191 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel. Manual and automatic transmissions vary by trim, and AWD is available on some versions.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The GS adds forward automatic emergency braking, automatic cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The GT adds adaptive headlights, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, and a 360-degree parking camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8.8-inch display operated by a rotary dial rather than touch input. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system also offers two USB ports, HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice control. Higher trims can add navigation, satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine is rated from 7.6 to 7.8 L/100 km combined, while the non-turbo 2.5-litre ranges from 7.6 to 8.1 L/100 km combined. The turbo hatchback is rated at 8.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 4 trim levels: GX, GS, GT, and GT Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point, but it still gives you heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core Mazda3 design and driving feel. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• GS: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most important comfort and safety upgrades, including dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, and more advanced driver assistance. If you want the sweet spot, start here.
• GT: This is the right choice if you want a more premium feel, with leather upholstery, a head-up display, navigation, and 18-inch wheels. It suits you if you want the Mazda3 to feel fully loaded without going turbo.
• GT Turbo: This is the performance-focused choice, with the more powerful turbocharged engine, standard automatic transmission, and standard AWD. Pick it if driving enjoyment matters most and you want the strongest acceleration.

The GS is the best-value trim, while the GT adds the most obvious luxury upgrades. Safety equipment expands meaningfully as you move up the range, with the GS and GT bringing the most important driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 172 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.35% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,136 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $25,138 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,039 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at the current average, you are starting from a lower base than owners saw a year ago. That can support value retention if demand stays steady, but it also means resale gains are unlikely in the near term.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and five-star ratings in its front crash tests and rollover test from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the GS adds forward automatic emergency braking, automatic cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The GT adds adaptive headlights, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

The main caveat is the hatchback’s massive C-pillar, which creates a serious blind spot. The infotainment layout can also distract you because some functions are awkward to use while driving.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines upscale feel, refined handling, and hatchback versatility in a compact package.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,660 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,138 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design, enjoyable driving manners, and strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,718 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,138 CAD average.
• It adds broad configuration flexibility with sedan, hatchback, FWD, AWD, and multiple engine choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, polish, and everyday usefulness, the 2023 is the strongest all-round pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want more configuration flexibility, the 2024 is worth a look.
