The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free for many shoppers, with strong value and features helping reinforce confidence in day-to-day ownership. The expert assessment also frames it as a feature-rich SUV that should satisfy buyers who prioritise practicality and technology.

Kia’s 5-year, 100,000-kilometre comprehensive warranty in Canada adds useful peace of mind for used buyers, though long-term ownership risk still depends on how well the vehicle was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX starts with cloth seats and front-wheel drive, while the X-Line adds rugged visual cues and standard all-wheel drive. The EX, EX Premium, and X-Line Limited bring more cabin polish and equipment, and the X-Line Limited is the most feature-rich choice.
• Powertrain: The gas Sportage uses a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is described as competent, but not especially quick.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, and a backup camera. X-Line adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning, while X-Line Limited adds blind-view monitor, highway driving assist, front and rear parking sensors, projection LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: EX-and-up models get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the LX uses an 8-inch screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. The top interface still uses wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the X-Line Limited adds a panoramic, curved, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas model is rated at 9.3 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.4 L/100 km combined with FWD, or 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.5 L/100 km highway, and 9.5 L/100 km combined with AWD.

Which 2023 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Sportage is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, X-Line, EX, EX Premium, and X-Line Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics plus wireless CarPlay and Android Auto on the 8-inch screen. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the larger display and extra convenience features.
• X-Line: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds standard AWD and more safety tech while keeping pricing relatively accessible. It is the trim the expert review points to as the point where the Sportage becomes especially competitive.
• EX: This trim is the step up for you if you want the 12.3-inch touchscreen, dual-zone full automatic climate control, and more standard tech without going all the way to the top.
• EX Premium: Choose this if you want a more upscale-feeling Sportage with additional equipment, but you do not need the full top-trim feature set.
• X-Line Limited: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete Sportage, especially for its blind-view monitor, highway driving assist, surround-view camera, and Harman Kardon audio system.

The X-Line Limited is also the only trim with Kia’s blind-view monitor and highway driving assist, so safety-focused shoppers should pay close attention to it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 637 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.05% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,335 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $27,345 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,401 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment than they would have a year ago. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry cost, but you should also expect resale values to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment.

The Sportage’s strong value proposition and broad appeal should help support demand, especially for well-equipped versions. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2023 Kia Sportage offers an admirable amount of collision-avoidance tech and advanced driver assistance systems as standard equipment.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist and lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, and a backup camera. X-Line adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning, while X-Line Limited adds blind-view monitor, highway driving assist, front and rear parking sensors, projection LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a surround-view camera.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It marks the redesigned generation with standout styling, roomy packaging, and strong technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,816 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,345 CAD average.
• It offers a familiar design with available turbocharged performance.

The bottom line: If you want the newer shape, stronger tech, and broader appeal, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
