CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Kia Sorento
Summary
With 73 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,373 CAD, 20.5% of 2023 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Kia Sorento 3.67 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Kia Sorento stands out as a family-focused midsize SUV that blends space, style, and a broad feature set. By this generation, it had grown enough to add a third row with room for adults, and its design took a more aggressive, sporty direction with deeper body contours. It also offered a wide range of equipment, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the base LX+ trim, along with available safety and convenience features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor, and a head-up display on higher trims.
What makes the 2023 model especially appealing is the variety in its powertrain lineup. The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine was rated at 191 hp, while a 281 hp turbocharged upgrade was available on higher trims. Kia also offered hybrid choices in this generation, including a hybrid model with 227 hp and a plug-in hybrid with up to 51 kilometres of electric-only range. Fuel economy was a clear strength too, with the hybrid leading the group at a Natural Resources Canada-estimated 6.6 L/100 km combined, while the base four-cylinder and turbocharged options were rated at 9.7 L/100 km and 9.9 L/100 km combined, respectively.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The blind-spot view camera system was available, but it was described as more distracting than helpful, especially at night. Even so, the 2023 Sorento’s mix of space, technology, efficiency, and multiple powertrain options makes it a compelling choice for buyers who want a versatile SUV that feels more modern and better equipped than many rivals.

Let me start by saying the 2023 Kia Sorento is a nice vehicle. It drives well, looks great, and has solid features. That's not the issue. The issue is the front grill design. Kia left the radiator completely exposed behind the grill with no protective barrier. Over time, dust, debris, and rocks collect and pass right through, causing serious damage to the radiator. Based on my experience and the experiences of hundreds of other owners, you will likely need to replace your entire radiator within the first three years of ownership. I've filed formal complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, the Michigan Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Why? Because neither the dealership nor Kia America will cover this repair. It is not covered under warranty. You will be expected to pay out of pocket in my case, $1,350 for damage caused by their faulty design. The "solution" owners are left with? Going on Amazon and purchasing a metal mesh grill guard to install yourself, just to protect a part that should have been protected from the factory. A consumer should not have to modify a brand-new vehicle to prevent a critical component from being destroyed under normal driving conditions. If the grill had been designed properly in the first place, none of this would be necessary. Don't just take my word for it. Search Reddit, Google, the Kia Forums, and the NHTSA complaint database. You'll find hundreds of Sorento owners reporting the exact same problem rock damage to the radiator because of this open grill design. If you're a current owner dealing with this, I urge you to file complaints. Report it to NHTSA, the FTC, the BBB, and your state attorney general's consumer division. The more complaints on record, the harder it becomes for Kia to ignore this, and the closer we get to holding them accountable , whether that means reimbursement for owners or a full recall. Our voices matter, but only if we use them. To anyone considering this vehicle: I'd still say it's a good car just know what you're getting into with that front end, and budget for a radiator replacement Kia won't tell you about.

This is car is fully loaded. It drives very nice and the visibility from the interior is great. I’ve only had it less than a week but I am in love with the Sorento sonfar. Definitely the nicest car I’ve ever had.

Is the 2023 Kia Sorento a good car?
The 2023 Kia Sorento is a solid fit if you want a family-focused midsize SUV with space, style, and a broad feature set, and its 3.67/5 user rating reflects that mixed-but-usable appeal. It stands out for offering a third row with room for adults, plus available convenience and safety equipment that can make daily driving easier. If you want a versatile SUV that feels more modern and better equipped than many rivals, it fits that brief well. The market also shows 31.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Kia Sorento reliable?
The 2023 Kia Sorento is presented as a family-focused midsize SUV with a broad feature set, multiple powertrain choices, and a practical cabin layout. Its strengths include the available hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, along with fuel economy that can be a clear advantage depending on the version you choose. The trade-off is that some features, like the blind-spot view camera system, may be less satisfying in everyday use.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk will depend heavily on how the vehicle was maintained and which powertrain and trim you choose.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Sorento?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 285 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.29% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $31,589 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $31,590 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,292 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Sorento has become more accessible for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale values. If you buy at today's average, you may have less room for appreciation than a year ago. For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and trim level will matter even more when it comes time to list.
Should I buy a 2023 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.29% compared with last year.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $28,154 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $31,590 CAD average.
- It offers a redesigned cabin with strong hybrid efficiency.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $37,670 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $31,590 CAD average.
- It adds refreshed styling and easier-to-use tech.
The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want a balance of price, features, and availability. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play. If you want newer styling and updated technology, the 2024 is the better upgrade path.
