Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator stands out because it is best understood for what makes it special rather than simply as one of several midsize pickup trucks. It combines the familiar character of the Wrangler with an open cargo bed, and that unusual formula gives it a personality few trucks can match. Its removable top and doors make it especially distinctive, while the available EcoDiesel turbodiesel engine adds an efficiency angle with a combined fuel consumption figure of 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres.
Practicality is another part of its appeal. Depending on configuration and equipment, the 2023 Gladiator offers as much as 775 kilograms of payload capacity and up to 3,492 kilograms of towing capacity, which gives it real utility alongside its off-road focus. It is also praised for being fun to drive and for its terrific off-roading capability. At the same time, buyers should be aware of its drawbacks: poor fuel economy, a noisy character, and a high price.

Doors off, roof off. Wana hit any trail? Go for it. Take it to the beach? Go for it. Snowing hard? Not a worry. Expensive? Yes. Good on gas? No. Look back at the jeep when you leave it? Yes every time. Loved this gladiator. Name speaks for itself.

This is the third day of ownership. So far so good. This is my second Jeep. The first one was a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which I had for nine years. I was looking for a truck but test drove a Mojave. I was pleasantly surprised at how much they have improved and how much I fun it was to drive. The suspension is so smooth and it’s much quieter than my old Jeep. I like the mix of truck and Jeep.

Is the 2023 Jeep Gladiator a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Jeep Gladiator earns a 4.82/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, off-road capability, and the way it blends technology with ruggedness. The Gladiator also stands out for its distinctive open-air character and truck utility, which makes it appealing if you want something more unusual than a conventional midsize pickup.
The trade-offs are clear: it is noisy, and the price is high. That matters most if you want a quieter, more conventional daily driver rather than a truck with personality and capability.
The Gladiator fits best if you value open-air versatility, off-road ability, and a truck that feels different from the mainstream. It also has 29.5% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Jeep Gladiator reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners describing the Gladiator as something they enjoy living with over time. The expert evaluation also highlights that it feels durable and well suited to hard use, especially if you want a truck that can handle rough terrain and everyday duty.
The available maintenance perk helps reduce early ownership costs if you choose the right package. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a rugged, highly capable truck can be more expensive to keep satisfying if it has been heavily used off-road.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Jeep Gladiator?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup starts with the Sport S and runs through Willys, Overland, Rubicon, Mojave, and High Altitude. The base setup is relatively bare, while higher trims add more equipment and capability, and the High Altitude’s Capability Package brings a winch-capable steel front bumper, steel rock rails, and a front off-road camera system.
- Powertrain: You get a standard 3.6-litre V6 with 285 horsepower and either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, plus an available 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 with 260 horsepower, 442 lb-ft of torque, and an eight-speed automatic. The diesel is the efficiency play, while the gas V6 is the standard choice.
- Safety package: The optional Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights, but there is no lane-departure warning or lane-keeping assistance.
- Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB connectivity, and an eight-speaker stereo. Higher trims can get an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, connected services, Wi-Fi hotspot access, SiriusXM satellite radio, a removable Bluetooth speaker, and a nine-speaker Alpine sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The optional EcoDiesel turbodiesel engine returns 9.8 L/100 km in combined driving. The gas V6 Mojave test vehicle is rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined, and the evaluation loop returned 13.6 L/100 km.
Which 2023 Jeep Gladiator trim should I buy?
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport S, Willys, Overland, Rubicon, Mojave, and High Altitude.
Here's the short version:
- Sport S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Gladiator’s core open-air character and truck utility at the lowest starting price, but you should expect the fewest extras.
- Willys: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more standard equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder, making it a smart middle ground.
- Overland: Choose this if you want a more comfort-leaning Gladiator with a broader equipment mix and less focus on the most extreme off-road hardware.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to buy if off-road capability is your priority, thanks to its more serious hardware and trail-focused setup.
- Mojave: Pick this if you want the most desert-running personality and a more specialised suspension tune; it suits buyers who value high-speed off-road composure.
- High Altitude: This is the upscale choice, and it makes the most sense if you want a more premium-feeling Gladiator with available equipment upgrades.
The Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are optional, so check carefully whether a used example has the driver-assistance equipment you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Jeep Gladiator?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 166 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.69% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $45,574 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Jeep Gladiator's resale value?
The current average of $45,574 CAD sits slightly below last year's $54,708 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make resale a little tougher for current owners in the short term. If you buy now, you may benefit from the softer pricing, but future sellers should expect value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment.
The Gladiator’s uniqueness helps support demand because shoppers who want its open-air formula have fewer alternatives. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Jeep Gladiator safe?
The Gladiator earns a four-star rating for frontal-impact protection from NHTSA, and the IIHS says its headlights are Marginal at best.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The available Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group builds on that with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
You should also note that Jeep does not offer lane-departure warning or lane-keeping assistance for the Gladiator. The rollover resistance rating is three stars, which is another reason to pay close attention to the safety equipment on any used example.
Should I buy a 2023 Jeep Gladiator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines Wrangler-like open-air character with pickup utility and strong off-road ability.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $53,388 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $45,574 CAD average.
- It adds minor styling revisions and next-generation infotainment technology.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and personality, the 2023 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay more for newer infotainment and added convenience features, the 2024 is the better path. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2023, especially if they can find a well-equipped example with the safety packages they want.
