It fits well if you want a practical midsize SUV that puts comfort, space, and efficiency ahead of flash. The overview and expert notes both point to a sensible, value-focused package with plenty of cargo space and a hybrid four-cylinder powertrain, while the cabin and exterior styling are described as outdated rather than modern. The main trade-off is that you’re choosing usefulness over the newest design language, and the expert review also notes that the Santa Fe Hybrid isn’t quick.

The market shows 25.4% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is presented as a practical, sensible SUV with a hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and a comfort-first driving character. The expert review highlights quiet highway manners, a compliant suspension, and a setup that’s designed to transport people and things in comfort rather than chase sporty performance. It also points to strong value and a straightforward, easy-to-use cabin.

The hybrid system’s efficiency and standard equipment should make day-to-day ownership appealing, and the available maintenance perk language adds to that impression. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core hardware and more about whether you’re comfortable with an older design and a single hybrid trim choice.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hybrid is positioned as a practical, value-focused model with an outdated look inside and out, but it still offers a sensible cabin layout and strong standard equipment. The hybrid-specific trim also misses some features that appear on higher gas trims, so you should check whether the equipment level matches your expectations.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a 44.2-kW electric motor, standard all-wheel drive, and a six-speed automatic transmission. The setup is tuned for comfort and efficiency rather than speed, and the review notes that it isn’t quick.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection, lane keep assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, safe exit assist, and rear occupant alert. The surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor, and Highway Driving Assist are not available on the hybrid in Canada.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with onboard navigation, Bluetooth, OTA map updates, dynamic voice recognition, and wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster also comes standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 7.1 L/100 km in the city, 7.9 on the highway, and 7.4 combined. The expert review also notes that the hybrid should save about $750 per year in fuel costs versus comparable gas versions.

Which 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is offered in 1 trim level: Luxury.

Here's the short version:

The Luxury trim is the one to buy because it’s the only hybrid trim available in Canada, so there isn’t a lower or higher hybrid version to compare against. It gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, the 10.25-inch touchscreen, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and the full set of standard safety features. If you want the hybrid Santa Fe, this is the trim that defines the model.

The safety package is comprehensive, but the surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor, and Highway Driving Assist are not included on the hybrid in Canada.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 63 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,469 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $32,073 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,625 CAD.

That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well kept. If you buy at today’s lower average, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. The year’s price range also shows that clean, well-priced examples can still hold meaningful value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid safe?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking and detection for pedestrians, cyclists, and junction-turning, lane keep assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, safe exit assist, and rear occupant alert. Those features make it a strong choice if you want a family-friendly SUV with a broad safety net.

A key caveat is that the surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor, and Highway Driving Assist are not available on the hybrid in Canada, so some of the most advanced visibility and assistance features are reserved for other versions.

Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out as the last year before a major redesign, with a practical, value-focused setup and plenty of cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want a used Santa Fe Hybrid with strong value, solid efficiency, and a lower average price than it had a year ago, the 2023 is the smart path. If you’re more price-sensitive and want to maximise deal hunting, keep an eye on listings near the low end of the range and compare them carefully against newer alternatives.
