Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda Ridgeline earns 4.4/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, smooth ride, versatility, and useful storage space. The Ridgeline also fits buyers who want a truck for modest tasks without the usual pickup compromises, and its practical, everyday-friendly character comes through clearly in the overview. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and a towing limit that trails more traditional rivals.

With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to find a strong example if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling truck that many drivers are happy to live with over time, especially because of its comfort, versatility, and useful storage. The expert road test also reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the Ridgeline as refined, quick, and comfortable in everyday driving.

Honda’s maintenance and ownership costs are helped by the truck’s strong value proposition in this segment, and its practical design should make day-to-day use straightforward. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with ageing technology and the limits of its truck hardware.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport is the base model in Canada, while EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition add more equipment. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more, especially if you care about convenience and tech.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for refined on-road driving rather than hard-core truck use.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada.
• Infotainment: The Ridgeline uses an 8-inch touchscreen, with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, wireless charging, and basic HondaLink services standard. Touring and Black Edition add navigation, premium audio, and cargo bed speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: The Ridgeline averaged 10.4 L/100 km on a road trip, and the official ratings are 11.5 L/100 km combined and 9.9 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2023 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core strengths without the extra frills. It suits you if you want the truck’s comfort and practicality at the lowest starting point in the range.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete ownership experience, since it builds on the base truck with more comfort and convenience equipment. It’s the trim to target if you want the sweet spot between price and features.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the more upscale equipment set, including navigation, premium audio, and cargo bed speakers. It makes sense if you plan to spend lots of time in the truck and want a more polished feel.
• Black Edition: This is the most distinctive trim, with the most premium presentation in the lineup. It suits you if you want the top-end look and equipment and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Ridgeline?

The market looks moderately favourable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 120 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,656 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $43,656 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,260 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Ridgeline is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means you may not see the same pricing strength unless demand tightens or inventory falls. Even so, its practical appeal and broad owner satisfaction should help it remain attractive to shoppers who value comfort and versatility over traditional truck toughness.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The 2023 Ridgeline earns mostly favourable crash-test and safety ratings from IIHS, and it gets top marks in all crash tests plus a four-star rollover resistance rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every version and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada.

The main caveat is that the driver-assistance tech is ageing and not as smooth or refined as newer Honda systems. The lane-departure warning can feel intrusive, and the adaptive cruise control can be a bit inconsistent in traffic.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a strong daily-driver pickup with exceptional practicality and great safety ratings.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,044 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,656 CAD average.
• It offers the same refined, unibody-based pickup formula with comfort and better on-road handling.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,770 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,656 CAD average.
• It adds a new TrailSport trim and updated interior tech for a more modern feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and current-market availability, the 2023 is the sensible pick. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2022 gives you much of the same core appeal for less. If you want the newest updates and can spend more, the 2024 is the better upgrade path.
