Is the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid a good car?

The main trade-offs are a touchy brake feel at low speeds and a small moonroof. Even so, the CR-V Hybrid’s use case is clear: you’re getting a practical, fuel-efficient compact SUV with a premium-feeling cabin and strong safety equipment.

Only 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the higher asking price still makes sense for your budget and needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Hybrid Touring is the only hybrid trim, and it brings the top-of-the-line treatment with 19-inch wheels, a more premium cabin feel, and the full equipment set. You should also note that the standard CR-V lineup includes lower trims with fewer features, so the hybrid’s value depends on whether you want the fully loaded version.
• Powertrain: The hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. It uses a CVT, includes a Snow drive mode, and is rated to tow up to 450 kilograms.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard, along with adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road-departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, low-speed braking control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic monitor, rear-seat reminder, and rear seatbelt reminder. Some trims marked with a B shipped without blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitor due to parts shortages.
• Infotainment: The Hybrid Touring gets a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi capability, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system. It also includes Honda’s smart navigation system.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is estimated to consume 6.0 L/100 km in the city, 6.9 L/100 km on the highway, and 6.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 1 trim level: Hybrid Touring.

Here's the short version:

The Hybrid Touring is the one to buy because it is the only hybrid trim and therefore the full expression of the model’s equipment and efficiency. You get the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, Bose audio, navigation, heated rear seats, and the complete safety suite, so there is no lower hybrid trim to trade down to. If you want the 2023 CR-V Hybrid, this is the trim that fits the model best.

The safety package is standard on this trim, including Honda Sensing, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic monitor, traffic jam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 318 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.72% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,819 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $37,819 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,889 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market than they did a year ago. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the prior average. The model’s strong equipment and hybrid appeal should still help support demand, especially among shoppers prioritising efficiency and safety.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and the suite includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road-departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, low-speed braking control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic monitor, rear-seat reminder, and rear seatbelt reminder.

A caveat to keep in mind is that trims marked with a B shipped without blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitor due to ongoing parts shortages.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the first Canadian CR-V Hybrid year, with a single well-equipped Touring trim and strong safety coverage.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $39,650 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $37,819 CAD average.
• A lower-priced EX-L Hybrid trim arrives, broadening access to the hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the best value on the current-generation CR-V Hybrid, the 2023 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the model already delivers strong equipment, safety, and owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a lower entry point into the hybrid lineup, the 2024 is worth a look.
