How much does the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 12.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,425 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 earns 4.33/5 from owners and 7.83/10 from expert testing. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

You’ll likely appreciate the stylish design, advanced technology, and comfortable ride, along with the variety of options and the improved interior compared with older models. The Sierra 1500 is framed as a full-size truck that can work hard while still feeling richly equipped and modern, especially if you want a more premium daily-driver experience.

The trade-offs are that pricing has risen, some features are limited in availability, and long-term engine concerns come up in owner feedback. The expert notes also point to too much tech for a truck and cabin quality that still trails the competition.

Only 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than especially soft.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling truck with a comfortable ride, strong everyday appeal, and enough variety to suit different needs. The diesel engine is described as lively, and the truck’s broad capability suggests it can be a trustworthy long-term companion if you choose the right configuration.

The expert drive notes also support that impression by describing the Sierra as smooth, composed, and well suited to commuting as well as truck duty. The five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty adds some ownership reassurance.

Still, used buyers should pay close attention to service history and any signs of engine-related concerns before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim walk starts with the Pro, which keeps the simpler carryover infotainment system and adds LED headlamps, remote keyless entry, cloth seats, daytime running lamps, and Bluetooth connectivity. It’s missing some basics, though, including a tilt and telescoping steering column. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, with the Denali Ultimate bringing nearly every available feature and the most luxury-focused presentation.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged inline-six diesel, a 5.3-litre V8, or a 6.2-litre V8. The diesel is the most efficient setup and is described as lively, while the gas engines trade efficiency for stronger output.
• Safety package: The Sierra 1500 comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and GM’s Safety Alert seat. GM’s Super Cruise is included on the Denali Ultimate.
• Infotainment: The base Pro uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google-connected apps. The updated system is feature-rich, but it can feel busy.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbo diesel with rear-wheel drive is the most efficient powertrain, at 10.1 L/100 km in the city, 8.1 on the highway, and 9.2 combined. With 4WD, it rises to 10.7 city, 8.7 highway, and 9.8 combined. The gas turbo-four returns 12.7 city, 11.2 highway, and 12.0 combined, while the 5.3-litre V8 returns 14.3/11.2/12.9 and the 6.2-litre V8 returns 16.7/14.0/15.5.

Which 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value starting point if you want the Sierra’s core truck capability without the more complicated cabin tech. It keeps the simpler 7-inch infotainment setup and adds the basics you need, but it also leaves out some convenience features.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument panel, a larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, extra USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Elevation: This trim builds on the SLE and makes certain options and packages available, so it suits you if you want a more customised setup without jumping straight to the luxury end.
• SLT: This is the comfort-focused step up, adding leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and memory settings for the driver’s seat.
• AT4: This is the off-road-oriented choice, with standard 4WD, skid plates, a lifted suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and an upgraded air filter.
• AT4X: This is the more serious trail-focused trim, developed with AEV and fitted with steel bumpers, an integrated front winch, 33-inch mud-terrain tires, additional skid plates, upgraded Multimatic dampers, and electronically locking front and rear differentials.
• Denali: This is the luxury trim if you want premium styling, a Bose premium audio system, ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, and a camera view of the truck bed.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury pick, with full-grain leather, massaging front seats, 22-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, and an integrated Kicker sound system in the Multi-Pro tailgate.

The standard safety suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and Teen Driver, while higher trims add more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,425 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $50,001 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $50,007 CAD sits slightly below last year's $57,122 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale upside may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. For a seller, the current trend suggests you may need to price competitively to move the truck quickly. Higher-trim examples with desirable equipment should still hold more appeal than stripped-down versions.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and GM’s Safety Alert seat.

GM’s Super Cruise is available on the Denali Ultimate, and that trim also gets the full set of advanced driver-assistance features. The expert notes also highlight how useful the surround-view camera system and parking sensors are in a large truck like this one.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds the Denali Ultimate luxury trim and strong diesel performance.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,500 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $50,007 CAD average.
• It brings a major makeover with a bolder design, a more lavish cabin, and new high-end trims.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,360 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,007 CAD average.
• It leans harder into versatility with work, off-road, and luxury configurations.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of luxury, capability, and current-market value, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better budget path, while the 2024 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
