CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford Mustang
Summary
With 73 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,162 CAD, 26.0% of 2023 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Mustang 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Mustang stands out because it belongs to one of Detroit’s most enduring and iconic nameplates, a car that has long made performance accessible to a wide audience while helping redefine what a muscle car can be. It remains a rear-wheel-drive sports car offered in coupe and convertible body styles, which keeps the Mustang’s classic formula intact. For shoppers, that combination of heritage, everyday recognisability, and broad appeal is a big part of the draw.
What makes the 2023 Ford Mustang especially distinctive is the range of powertrains and trims associated with the current generation. The buying guide notes that the seventh-generation Mustang is available with Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-litre inline four-cylinder engine, while upper trims can be had with 5.0-litre V8 power, and a 10-speed automatic is the most common transmission. At launch, the Canadian lineup included EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, Ford Mustang GT, GT Premium, and Mustang Dark Horse. That breadth gives buyers a lot of choice, from more mainstream versions to more serious performance models.
There are also a few caveats to keep in mind. The buying guide says 2024 and 2025 Mustangs have been reported to suffer from powertrain vibrations, inconsistent interior build quality, limited-slip differential problems, and electronic stability control issues, so a used example should be checked carefully for repairs under warranty. It also notes that the EcoBoost engine may get good fuel economy, but it requires premium fuel. Even so, owners’ feedback points to strong satisfaction with the car’s performance, styling, and value, with the sound system and convertible option also earning praise.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint the new Mustangs look like the classic muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. It has that wide body and low to the ground appearance you expect from a Ford Mustang. This particular model with its “White Ice Appearance Package” is truly classy. But this vehicle is nothing like the Mustangs of the 60’s and 70’s. It has all the “Bells and Whistles” of the modern technology era! From its state of the art 12 LCD Digital IP CLUSTER, to its SAFETY/SECURITY conscious package this vehicle is truly a marvel and an utter joy to drive. As far as being a good value, I think Ford has done a fairly good job of giving the car buyer the most and best bang for his buck. They’ve incorporated the things people are looking for in a vehicle and done so at a reasonable cost to the consumer. From my point of view the EcoBoost Premium Fastback RWD with the 201A Optional Equipment Package leaves nothing out. It was a great deal for the price and it has everything that I need or even desired in a car.

| Year-Round High | $46,715 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $44,315 CAD |

Is the 2023 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Ford Mustang earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its performance, styling, and value, and many also highlight the driving experience, the sound system, and the convertible option. That lines up well with its role as a rear-wheel-drive sports car that offers coupe and convertible body styles, so you get a classic muscle-car formula with broad appeal.
With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car people feel good about living with, especially when it comes to performance and overall enjoyment. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to service history and any signs of past repairs, since long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-maintained example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 191 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.46% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $42,783 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $42,783 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,315 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today but may also temper what you recover later if you sell. If you plan to own the car for a few years, the current price trend gives you a clearer entry point, but future resale will still depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $53,699 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,783 CAD average.
- It adds major interior and technology upgrades.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2023 if you want the stronger value proposition and a wider pool of listings to compare. If you’re willing to spend more for newer tech and interior improvements, the 2024 is the better upgrade path; if price matters most, the 2023 is the smarter buy.
