Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Maverick stands out as a compact pickup that still feels fresh and attention-grabbing in its second model year. Its hybrid-driven fuel efficiency has helped generate plenty of buzz, and the truck’s stylish design gives it a more distinctive look than many buyers expect from a small pickup. For shoppers who want something practical but not plain, that combination of efficiency and personality is a major part of its appeal.
For 2023, the Maverick also gains the Tremor package, adding another layer of interest for buyers who want more off-road capability. That makes the truck more versatile than a basic city-friendly hauler, while still keeping its compact footprint. The trade-offs are worth noting, though: the Maverick can be noisy, its interior materials can feel cheap, and its infotainment system is older. Even so, its fuel efficiency and broad usefulness help explain why it continues to draw so much attention.

absolutely the best vehicle I have owned. The mileage is much better than the advertised numbers. I have the hybrid version and so far after driving for just over a week ( 1200 KM ) I have an average of about 4.9 L / 100KM combined. The truck rides amazingly smooth and is so versatile with the flex bed system. I love my truck!

Great value for the money. Get the towing package, if you can, for even more value. Very efficient fuel use, in either gas or hybrid versions. Comfortable and spacious interior, in spite of the compact overall size.

Is the 2023 Ford Maverick a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.39/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, comfort, and value, and many also like the hybrid option and practical design for family and hauling use. The Maverick’s compact footprint and distinctive styling help it stand out if you want something practical but not plain.
The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: it can be noisy, the interior materials can feel cheap, and the infotainment system is older. For shoppers who want a compact pickup that feels useful in city driving but still offers extra versatility, that balance may work well.
29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which is a decent sign of market opportunity.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick reliable?
Owners rate it 4.39/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners’ feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for its practical design and value over the long term. The hybrid powertrain and compact-truck packaging are part of why many buyers feel confident counting on it day to day.
Ford’s hybrid setup is also a strong efficiency play, and the model’s cost-effectiveness focus supports the case for lower running costs over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck has been cared for properly, especially if you’re shopping a higher-mileage example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, with steel wheels and a more basic cabin, while XLT and Lariat add more polished wheel designs and a more upscale feel. If you want the best value, the XLT is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
- Powertrain: You get a standard hybrid setup with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, electric motor, 191 horsepower, and front-wheel drive, or a 2.0-litre turbo EcoBoost with 250 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. The Tremor package is the only way to get Ford’s Advanced 4WD system on the Maverick.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot 360 is standard, with automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane centring, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
- Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 8 inches, with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. Lariat models get a 6.5-inch driver-information display, and the Lariat Luxury Package adds Ford’s Sync 3 system, a wireless charging pad, and an eight-speaker B&O sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 5.8 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 6.4 combined. The gas engine is rated at 10.9 L/100 km city, 8.4 highway, and 9.8 combined, while the Tremor package increases consumption to 11.9 city, 9.9 highway, and 11.0 combined.
Which 2023 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the most affordable way into the Maverick, but it is also the most basic, with steel wheels and fewer comfort touches. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live with a simpler setup.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished look and sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment. It’s also the trim that can be paired with the Tremor package if you want extra capability.
- Lariat: This is the most upscale Maverick, with a larger driver display, more convenience features, and available Luxury Package upgrades. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech in the lineup.
Ford Co-Pilot 360 is standard across the range, so even the base trim gets the core safety suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 251 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.73% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,208 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Maverick's resale value?
The current average of $33,228 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,407 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Maverick has moved from peak enthusiasm into a more normalised used-market position. For a future seller, that means you may not see the same premium that early demand created, especially if similar trucks remain plentiful.
At the same time, the Maverick’s strong value proposition and broad shopper appeal should help keep demand steady. If you maintain it well and present it with desirable equipment, it should remain attractive to used buyers.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.39/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick safe?
The 2023 Ford Maverick earned a four-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) losing points for rollover resistance and for the passenger’s side in the frontal crash test.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot 360 is standard, so every trim gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane centring, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
The IIHS results are mixed: it earned Superior for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and Advanced for vehicle-to-pedestrian daytime protection, but only Basic for vehicle-to-pedestrian at night. That night-time result is the main caveat to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.39/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The Tremor package adds extra off-road capability and Trail Control, making this year especially interesting for buyers who want more versatility.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,675 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,228 CAD average.
- It launched the Maverick as a simple, approachable compact pickup with a standard hybrid powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the more interesting used buy, the 2023 is the better target because it adds the Tremor package and still benefits from strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the sensible alternative, especially if you’re happy with the Maverick’s core hybrid-focused formula.
