Why it stands out
The 2023 Dodge Durango stands out because it blends SUV practicality with a muscle-car personality. Dodge’s own review describes it as “part SUV, part muscle car,” and the model’s evolution shows the brand leaning away from mainstream rivals and towards a niche focused on attitude. It also remains a long-running design, with the current third-generation Durango dating back to the 2011 model year.
For 2023 in Canada, the Durango adds standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, along with new colours that bring the total palette to nine. The biggest headline is the return of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat with its supercharged V8 engine, now offered as a regular production model. That helps explain why the Durango appeals to buyers who want a family-sized SUV with serious performance character, and the available V8 engines reinforce that appeal.
There are trade-offs, though. The review notes that advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is poor with the V8 engines. Even so, the 2023 Dodge Durango remains distinctive for shoppers who value style, power, and a more aggressive personality than most midsize SUVs deliver.

Great SUV for the money. I like the styling and all the features. Handles well but the ride is a little rough. The RT is throttle responsive for the weight of this vehicle but the city gas mileage is horrible.

I am a Durango girl, this is number 2 for me. They get great gas mileage for the get up & go the V6 has. Plenty of room to haul all of my animal foods & plants around. Most comfortable ride I’ve ever experienced. My most favorite vehicle ever!

How much does the 2023 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $42,672 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $42,670 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $47,835 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $47,826 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.78% |
Prices have softened 10.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 433 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Dodge Durango earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its styling, powerful performance, and spaciousness. Many also highlight the comfort of the ride and the strong gas mileage from the V6. On the other hand, some owners point to interior quality concerns, especially in the back seat, and depreciation after purchase.
That lines up with the Durango’s use case: you’re getting a three-row SUV with a strong personality, family-friendly space, and a clear performance focus rather than a mainstream, efficiency-first approach. The market also shows 37.0% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that can be dependable and trouble-free when it’s maintained well, with many drivers describing it as a model they can count on for everyday use. The expert review also notes a five-year, 100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which is a useful ownership cushion.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-output versions can be more expensive to run and may have been driven harder than the V6 models, so service history matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Dodge Durango?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup starts with the SXT and moves up through the GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392, with the SRT Hellcat also available. Lower trims are more basic inside, while the Citadel adds more luxurious features like Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated second-row captain’s chairs. The base SXT also misses some of the more distinctive styling and equipment you’ll find higher up the range.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 on the SXT, GT, and Citadel, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 on the R/T and optionally the Citadel, a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 in the SRT 392, and a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 in the SRT Hellcat. The V6 is the most efficient choice, while the V8s deliver much stronger performance but use significantly more fuel.
- Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on all trim levels. Forward collision warning is not standard, and lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are not standard either. The SXT Plus grade adds automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Starting with the GT, you get a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Uconnect 5 instead of the older Uconnect 4C system.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 is rated at 13.0 L/100 km in the city, 9.4 on the highway, and 11.3 combined. Fuel use rises to 14.1 combined with the 5.7-litre V8, 15.6 combined with the 6.4-litre V8, and 17.4 combined with the supercharged 6.2-litre Hellcat engine.
Which 2023 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2023 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Durango’s space and personality at the lowest price. You still get the V6, AWD, and the standard safety basics, but you give up some of the nicer tech and comfort upgrades found higher up.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which makes the cabin feel much more current. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on.
- R/T: Choose this if you want the V8 experience without jumping all the way to the high-performance SRT models. It adds the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 and a more aggressive personality, and it can also be dressed up with appearance packages.
- Citadel: This is the comfort-focused choice, with more upscale interior materials and available luxury features. It suits you best if you want a more premium family SUV and are willing to pay for it.
- SRT 392: This is the performance trim for buyers who want serious speed and stronger braking and chassis hardware. It’s the right pick if driving excitement matters more than fuel economy.
- SRT Hellcat: This is the extreme choice, with the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and the most dramatic performance in the lineup. It’s for you if you want the most powerful and most distinctive Durango, not the most sensible one.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard across the lineup, but more advanced driver-assistance features are not widely standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Dodge Durango?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 433 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.78% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $42,670 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $42,672 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,826 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favourable if you’re planning to sell soon. A softer market usually means future sellers may need to price more aggressively to stand out. The Durango’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, but depreciation remains something to keep in mind if you’re buying with resale in mind.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango safe?
The 2023 Dodge Durango earns top "Good" marks from IIHS in the original-format moderate front overlap and side tests, as well as the roof strength test, but it receives a "Marginal" score in the driver-side small overlap front test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a four-star overall safety rating, with five-star ratings in the side crash test and four-star ratings in the frontal crash test; AWD versions also received a three-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on all trim levels. Forward collision warning is not standard, and lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are not standard either, though the SXT Plus grade includes automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The mixed crash-test results and limited standard driver-assistance tech are the main safety caveats to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2023 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model adds standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, and it brings back the Durango SRT Hellcat as a regular production model.
The bottom line: If you want the Durango’s mix of space, attitude, and available V8 power, the 2023 model is the one to target, especially if you value the added standard comfort features and the broader performance story. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2023’s softer pricing and strong owner satisfaction make it a compelling place to start.
