Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns 4.36/5 from owners and 8.67/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, power, comfort, great mileage, and numerous features. That lines up well with its use-case as a full-size pickup that can handle work duties and everyday driving, especially if you want a truck with lots of cabin space and easy-to-use technology.

The trade-offs are a rough ride compared to rivals and steering that can feel numb at times. Even so, the Silverado’s broad capability and convenience mix keeps it appealing if you want a do-it-all truck rather than the most polished ride in the segment.

Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert assessment also frames it as a capable, comfortable daily driver with the kind of durability buyers expect from a full-size pickup.

The cost-effectiveness notes also highlight that Chevrolet still understands what trucks are really for, with the Silverado’s value rooted in power, versatility, and capability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a truck used hard for towing or off-road driving may show wear faster than a lighter-duty commuter vehicle.

Rear-wheel drive is standard, 4WD is optional, and the base engine uses an eight-speed automatic while the others use a 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and the Teen Driver system. The LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.

Here's the short version:

• Custom: This is the best-value pick for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, a power-locking tailgate, and more USB ports while staying relatively straightforward.
• Custom Trail Boss: Choose this if you want the off-road hardware built on the Custom’s value base, including standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers.
• LT: This is the first trim with the more modern dash layout, the 13.4-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a heated steering wheel.
• RST: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches if you want a more style-forward Silverado.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the step up if you want the Trail Boss formula with the LT’s upgraded cabin and tech.
• LTZ: This is the best-value trim for creature comforts, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, extra USB ports, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
• High Country: This is the luxury-oriented choice, with features such as a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats.
• ZR2: This is the most off-road-focused trim, and the new-for-2023 Bison package adds heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles.

The LTZ trim adds the most complete safety package, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, rain-sensing wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $46,417 CAD sits slightly below last year's $52,423 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If you own one for several years, the Silverado’s broad appeal, strong capability, and useful cabin should help support demand. Trucks with the right mix of utility and comfort tend to stay relevant with used buyers, especially when they have a strong reputation for satisfaction.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Available tech includes adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a rear-camera mirror, and Super Cruise hands-free highway driving.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds Duramax diesel power upgrades and a new ZR2 Bison off-road configuration.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $51,550 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $46,417 CAD average.
• It adds Super Cruise on the very top trim.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the stronger buy because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction is solid. If you are willing to spend more for the newer model year’s added features, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
