What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Trendline uses a simpler MIB2 setup with a 6.5-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth, while higher trims add a more polished cabin, standard heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry with push-button start, remote start, and richer interior materials. The Highline R-Line adds the most upscale presentation, including perforated and piped leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and more advanced digital instrumentation.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and 4Motion AWD. The setup is tuned more for everyday usability than excitement, and the engine can feel a bit delayed off the line.
• Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard, and Travel Assist plus Emergency Assist are available. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance, while Emergency Assist can slow the SUV and bring it to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. Make sure you know whether the trim you’re considering includes the features you want.
• Infotainment: Most versions use an 8-inch touchscreen with MIB3, standard Car-Net connected services, standard App-Connect smartphone mirroring, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Highline R-Line adds a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display, a redesigned navigation system, and a nine-speaker Fender premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says R-Line grades will do no better than 9.8 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test drive returned 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line Black Edition, and Highline R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the entry point, but it still gives you standard 4Motion AWD, LED headlights, digital gauges, and the core safety suite. It makes sense if you want the Tiguan’s basics at the lowest price, though you give up the more polished infotainment and convenience upgrades found higher up.
• Comfortline: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry with push-button start, remote start, and a more complete everyday feature set without jumping all the way to the top trim. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• Comfortline R-Line Black Edition: Choose this if you want the sportier look and blacked-out styling of the R-Line treatment. It is more about appearance and presence than a major mechanical change.
• Highline R-Line: This is the most luxurious and tech-rich version, with the richer cabin, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, Fender audio, redesigned navigation, and standard Park Assist. It suits you best if you want the most upscale Tiguan experience.

Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are available safety upgrades, and Park Assist is standard on Highline R-Line.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 600 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,229 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $25,418 CAD sits slightly below last year's $29,719 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Tiguan easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the current average, you’re starting from a lower baseline than owners did a year ago. That can help if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while, but it also means resale gains are less likely to be driven by market appreciation alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2021 Tiguan earned a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Front Assist, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and Side Assist with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, are standard. Travel Assist adds adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance, and Emergency Assist can slow the SUV and bring it to a stop if the driver is unresponsive. Park Assist is standard on Highline R-Line.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds new safety technology and a light refresh while keeping the Tiguan’s familiar formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,376 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $25,418 CAD average.
• It offers a larger inside space and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a roomier, more upscale cabin, the 2023 is worth a look.
