Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The Tiguan’s appeal starts with stylish design and continues with good handling, giving it a more polished feel than many shoppers may expect from a mainstream SUV. It also gets a boost in value with upgrades for the 2024 model year, and Volkswagen backs the premium looks with value in areas that are likely to matter to most buyers.

The trade-offs are that the driving experience is not especially impressive, the throttle can be irritating, and the seats are uncomfortable. It also does not offer a hybrid option, which may matter if you want better efficiency or electrified power.

With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to find a compelling offer if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Tiguan is presented as a carryover model with meaningful 2024 value upgrades, and Volkswagen supports it with standard advanced safety features and a four-year/80,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Its standard turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and eight-speed automatic are paired with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive, which gives the model a straightforward mechanical setup.

Volkswagen also includes a complimentary four-year subscription to VW Car-Net, which adds remote access, automatic crash notifications, and stolen vehicle location assistance. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Tiguan’s efficiency and driving refinement may not age as gracefully as its styling.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line, and Highline R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you heated front seats, cloth seating surfaces, LED headlights and taillights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard safety equipment. • Comfortline: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds eight-way power driver’s seat adjustability, leatherette upholstery, a power tailgate, and Travel Assist features including adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and Emergency Assist. If you want the strongest mix of comfort and safety tech, this is the one to target.
• Comfortline R-Line: This trim adds the R-Line treatment and a panoramic sunroof, while also bringing Park Distance Control at this level. It makes sense if you want a more upscale feel and extra convenience features.
• Highline R-Line: This is the most luxurious choice, with real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, three-position driver’s seat memory, heated outboard rear seats, and the fully configurable 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro screen. Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Volkswagen backs the vehicle’s premium looks with value in areas more likely to matter to most shoppers.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,376 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $29,492 CAD average.
• It feels more upscale in appearance and more enjoyable to drive than many rivals.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $40,206 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $29,492 CAD average.
• It corrects the last generation’s user interface issues and feels more refined day to day.

The bottom line: The 2024 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of value, standard safety equipment, and premium styling. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 is the better price-first alternative, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the redesigned cabin and are willing to pay more.
