Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its sleek design, smooth performance, impressive fuel economy, and spacious, well-designed interior. The cabin also gets credit for comfy seats and modern technology, which fits the Jetta’s role as an efficient, comfortable sedan with a polished presentation.

The trade-offs are familiar: some drivers find the dashboard layout and emergency brake design less appealing, and the expert review notes fairly pedestrian performance and technology that can feel unintuitive. Even so, the Jetta’s value-minded refresh makes it a sensible choice if you want a compact sedan with a modern feel rather than a sporty personality.

With 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling car with praise for its gas mileage, comfort, and performance. That lines up with the expert impression of efficient, reliable transportation at a manageable price, plus a comfortable cabin and supportive seats for longer drives.

The Jetta also comes across as a car you can count on for everyday use, especially if you value fuel economy and a well-equipped interior. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is more about feature and usability compromises than outright durability concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline are the three trims, and the biggest feature gaps show up at the base level. Trendline gets the 6.5-inch infotainment system, while Comfortline and Highline add the 8-inch system and more advanced digital displays; Highline also brings the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro and an 8-inch touchscreen-navigation system.
• Powertrain: You get a single 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, plus a standard 6-speed manual or optional 8-speed automatic. The Jetta is front-wheel drive only, and the automatic is standard on Highline.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition are standard. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist are offered from Comfortline, so base-trim shoppers miss several key driver aids.
• Infotainment: Trendline uses a 6.5-inch Volkswagen MIB2 system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Bluetooth, two USB-C ports, and an SD card multimedia interface. Comfortline and Highline move to an 8-inch infotainment system, and Highline adds a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro with more views and widgets.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the manual Jetta at 8.0 L/100 km city, 5.5 highway, and 6.9 combined, while the automatic is rated at 7.7 L/100 km city, 5.7 highway, and 6.8 combined.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 3 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the value entry point, but it is also the most stripped-back version. You still get the core efficiency and standard safety basics, yet you give up the larger infotainment setup and the extra driver-assistance features that arrive higher up the range.
• Comfortline: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch infotainment system and unlocks the more useful safety and convenience upgrades, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
• Highline: Choose this if you want the most polished Jetta experience, with the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, the 8-inch touchscreen-navigation system, and the automatic transmission as standard. It suits you best if you want the most technology and the most upscale cabin presentation.

The safety package starts with forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition, while the more advanced driver-assistance features begin on Comfortline.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $21,471 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,603 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Jetta is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you own one and plan to sell later, the recent decline means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

The good news is that the model’s value proposition is still anchored by efficiency, comfort, and strong owner satisfaction. If those traits continue to resonate with used shoppers, resale demand should remain steady enough to support a reasonable exit price.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition are standard in Canada. From Comfortline, you also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.

Travel Assist is not a hands-free system, and it can need extra guidance on sweeping highway curves. Headlights are also rated Marginal to Poor depending on the trim, so lighting performance is a point to check carefully when you shop.
