Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.69/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful engine, advanced features, and reliability, while also calling out its solid feel and smooth ride. That lines up well with the Tundra’s role as a full-size half-ton pickup for buyers who want broad capability, a fresh redesign, and a truck with a strong reputation for durability. The market also shows 29.3% of listings as good or great deals, which adds some value context for shoppers.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to reliability, durability, and a truck that feels dependable over time, with many owners describing it as a vehicle they can count on. The expert notes also reinforce that impression by highlighting Toyota’s long-standing reputation for durability and value, along with the truck’s smooth, consistent power delivery and well-sorted chassis. Toyota’s standard maintenance and ownership support features add to the appeal for long-term use.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is paying too much for a truck whose value proposition can feel stretched if the asking price is high.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and above get a 14-inch display and more premium cabin materials and amenities. Higher trims also bring more upscale technology and equipment, so the gap between entry and upper trims is significant.
• Powertrain: You get a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 on most trims, while the hybrid i-Force Max adds an electric motor-generator for more output. The V6 is described as smooth and consistent, with no hint of turbo lag or spikiness.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on most SR and SR5 models and standard on all other trim levels.
• Infotainment: SR and SR5 use an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and above get a 14-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models, and upper grades add Drive Connect and a Qi-compatible charge pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard V6 is rated at 11.8 L/100 km combined in rear-wheel-drive form and 12.2 L/100 km combined with four-wheel drive. The hybrid powertrain is also rated at 12.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is offered in 5 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics with the 8-inch touchscreen and standard wireless smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the redesigned Tundra.
• SR5: Toyota identifies this as one of the core trims, so it should be on your shortlist if you want the best balance of equipment and volume availability. It is the trim most shoppers should compare first.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds the 14-inch touchscreen and a more premium interior feel without jumping all the way to luxury territory.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want a more upscale truck with the 14-inch display, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and available head-up display.
• TRD Pro: This is the flagship, with the most aggressive equipment and off-road-focused hardware, including FOX shocks and aluminium skid plates.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all trims except most SR and SR5 models, where it is part of a package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 174 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $47,093 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $47,130 CAD sits slightly below last year's $53,602 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the right price, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who bought when prices were higher. The Tundra’s loyal owner base and strong satisfaction ratings should help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has not yet received crash-test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on all models, and it includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The Star Safety System is also standard, along with eight airbags, LATCH connectors on the outboard second-row seats, child-protector rear door locks, a window-lockout control, a tyre-pressure monitor system, hill-start control, drive-start control, and active headrests for the driver and front passenger.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available as part of a package on most SR and SR5 models and standard on all other trim levels.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a full redesign with a modern powertrain and a broad technology update.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,822 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,130 CAD average.
• It appeals if you want a proven, simpler truck with a long-running formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $51,289 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $47,130 CAD average.
• It keeps the newer-generation formula while leaning into a more advanced and efficient feel.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the redesigned Tundra and can find a well-priced example. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you a bit of money, while the 2023 is the better choice if you want to spend more for the newer-generation experience.
