How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 7.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Drivers consistently praise its safety, comfort, smooth ride, quality, and stylish design. It also fits well if you want a practical three-row family SUV with space, versatility, technology, and a more polished feel.

The main trade-offs are the cramped third row and the outdated infotainment system, along with some complaints about missing memory seat features and driver-seat comfort for taller people. Even so, its family-hauler focus and broad trim range make it easy to tailor to your needs.

With 25.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still a healthy share of attractive inventory to shop.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting its reliability and comfort. The expert review also describes it as a vehicle that covers the basics well and provides the kind of high-tech safety features families can count on.

Toyota backs it with a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the third row and infotainment setup will meet your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE gives you standard AWD, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The XLE brings a power sunroof, power liftgate, wireless device charging, and a heated steering wheel, while the Limited adds premium LED headlamps, ventilated front seats, genuine leather, a panoramic moonroof, and the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen. The XSE stands out with unique styling, 20-inch wheels, captain’s chairs, and a sport-tuned suspension, while the Platinum adds a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, and a rearview camera mirror.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard AWD. It feels strongest once you’re already moving, with better passing power than off-the-line punch.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. All trims also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and eight airbags.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, five USB ports, and SiriusXM. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, though a 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada figures are 11.8 L/100 km in the city, 8.6 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.3 L/100 km combined. In expert testing, it returned 10.0 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point if you want standard AWD, heated front seats, and the core safety and infotainment features without stretching the budget.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a power sunroof, power liftgate, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, and more convenience features without jumping to luxury pricing.
• XSE: Choose this if you want the sportier look and feel, including unique styling, 20-inch wheels, captain’s chairs, and the sport-tuned suspension.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather, ventilated front seats, premium audio, and the larger touchscreen.
• Platinum: Go here if you want the most fully equipped Highlander, including the 360-degree camera, heated second-row seats, and rearview camera mirror.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you can shop trims based on comfort, style, and convenience rather than needing to move up for core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,548 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $41,843 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,006 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right point in the cycle. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation exposure later.

The Highlander’s broad appeal as a family SUV should help support demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its safety, comfort, and practicality. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A few upper-level safety features are optional or trim-dependent, including front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a digital rearview mirror. The lane-keeping and lane-centering systems can also feel overly active at times, which is worth noting if you prefer lighter steering intervention.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a standard V6, strong safety coverage, and a flexible trim range for family buyers.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $38,619 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $41,843 CAD average.
• It adds standard safety-feature technology and has strong name recognition.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it pairs a lower market price trend with strong owner satisfaction and a well-rounded feature set. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still delivers the Highlander’s core family-friendly appeal.
