How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

There are 143 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. The 4Runner also fits buyers who want a traditional SUV that can handle everyday errands while still heading well beyond the usual suburban route.

With 37.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is a decent amount of market value to be found if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the 4Runner’s 4.0-litre V6 is described as reliable in expert testing. That same durability-minded character is part of the appeal for buyers who want something they can count on over time.

Toyota also backs the 4Runner with a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting a truck-like SUV that can feel rough and less efficient than more modern alternatives.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trail grade is the most basic version, while the Limited adds more comfort and convenience features such as three-row seating, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, and a JBL audio system. The Trail also misses heated front seats, which are standard elsewhere.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a single 4.0-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic and standard 4WD with low range. It is reliable, but it is also dated and can feel underwhelming in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of these features depend on the automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. There is no larger screen upgrade, but navigation and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system can be added.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 on the highway, and 13.8 combined. The Limited’s full-time 4WD system is rated at 14.9 L/100 km city and 12.6 highway.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: Trail, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• Trail: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner experience with standard 4WD, an 8-inch touchscreen, Toyota Safety Sense P, push-button start, remote keyless entry, and a power-sliding rear window. It is the value play if you want the rugged basics without paying for extra comfort features.
• SR5: This trim sits above the Trail and is the starting point for several package configurations. It is the better choice if you want more flexibility in how you equip the 4Runner.
• TRD Sport: This version adds a more road-oriented setup with 20-inch alloy wheels, X-REAS performance suspension, a TRD hood scoop, and sport exterior badging. It suits you if you want a more styled, pavement-focused 4Runner.
• TRD Off Road: This is the best fit if you want the most trail-ready hardware, including a locking rear differential, crawl control, active traction control, multi-terrain select, black roof rails, and KDSS. It is the strongest choice for buyers who plan to use the 4Runner off pavement.
• Limited: This is the most comfort-focused trim, with three-row seating, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, parking sensors, a JBL audio system, and full-time 4WD. It is the best-value pick if you want the most everyday convenience.
• TRD Pro: This is the most ruggedly equipped version, with Fox shock absorbers, an aluminium front skid plate, a basket-style roof rack, and TRD Pro badging. Choose it if you want the most off-road-focused factory setup.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but heated front seats are not included on the Trail grade.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 143 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,531 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $49,535 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,365 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more favourably now but may also mean a softer resale outlook if you sell soon. For future sellers, the current trend points to less pricing momentum than a year ago, so condition, mileage, and trim will matter even more.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings for rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of these driver-assistance features are only available with the automatic transmission.

The main caveat is that the 2022 4Runner had not yet been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the rugged SUV formula while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,739 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $49,535 CAD average.
• It offers rugged utility with strong reliability and resale appeal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $54,899 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $49,535 CAD average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and current-market softness, the 2022 is the sensible default. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the cheaper route into the same basic formula, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the added safety tech and are willing to pay more.
