Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearToronto, ON

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 12.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 155 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Ascent earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. It is positioned as Subaru’s only model built to carry more than five people, so it makes the most sense if you need three-row seating and want the brand’s familiar focus on durability, safety, and all-weather confidence. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The Ascent’s value case is strengthened by standard AWD, strong safety credentials, and family-friendly utility, while the Onyx Edition adds a more distinctive look and practical water-resistant upholstery. 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which points to a market with some room for selective shopping.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Ascent’s reputation is built around durability, safety, and getting you where you need to go regardless of weather and road conditions. Its turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder, standard AWD, and CVT are described as a strong, capable combination, and the transmission is noted as remarkably good in how it keeps the engine in its torque band. Subaru also gives the Ascent a practical ownership edge with standard AWD and EyeSight, and the model’s value proposition is reinforced by the fact that Subaru says it did not raise sticker prices for the new model year.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not a lack of capability but the possibility that driver-assistance behaviour and camera performance may feel less polished than you expect, so it is worth testing those systems carefully on a road test.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch aluminium wheels, a unique grille design, special interior trim, and water-repellant StarTex synthetic leather. It sits in the middle of the lineup, while the Premier trim gets additional technology such as a digital rearview mirror and a 180-degree-view front camera.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard AWD. Subaru’s X-Mode off-road traction control system, hill descent control, and 22 centimetres of ground clearance are part of the package, and the fuel consumption figure is 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes an advanced adaptive cruise control system with lane-centring technology. Every Ascent also gets steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires at least the Touring trim, and reverse automatic braking is available.
• Infotainment: Base trim gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Touring trim adds an 8-inch display with available Starlink connected services, including remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Ascent at 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, with 11.7 city and 9.0 highway. In testing, it averaged 11.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Ascent’s core strengths at the lowest starting price, including standard AWD, EyeSight, and the 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Touring: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of equipment and safety, because it adds the 8-inch display, available Starlink connected services, and is the first trim to offer blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Onyx Edition: This is the best-value pick if you want the most distinctive look and a more practical interior, thanks to the blacked-out styling and water-resistant StarTex upholstery.
• Limited: Choose this if you want to move up the lineup for more comfort and convenience features without jumping straight to the top trim.
• Premier: This is the most feature-rich choice, with extras such as the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 155 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,997 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $29,997 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,231 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Ascent more attractive to used buyers today but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you buy near the current average, you may have less room to recover value quickly unless the market tightens again. The strongest resale prospects will likely come from well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean presentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The Subaru Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating in all of the organization’s assessments, and earns five-star crash-test ratings in all evaluations except for rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes numerous collision-avoidance and driving aids, including advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centring technology. Every Ascent also gets steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist. If you want blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, you need at least the Touring trim.

One caveat is that EyeSight can be affected by low, direct sunlight, and the adaptive cruise control and lane-centring system can feel less refined than you might expect. That means you should test the driver-assistance systems carefully to make sure they suit your preferences.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Subaru adds a new Onyx Edition for this year, bringing blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery.

The bottom line: The 2022 Subaru Ascent makes the most sense if you want the three-row Subaru experience with standard AWD, strong safety credentials, and a lower current average price than last year. If you are price-sensitive, the 2022 is especially worth a look because the market has softened and there is still a decent amount of inventory to compare. If you want the newest equipment or a different feature mix, you can also compare nearby model years, but the 2022 stands out as a practical and value-conscious choice.
