Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale near New Brunswick

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 10.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 146 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The Ascent fits you best if you want a midsize three-row SUV with Subaru’s familiar focus on durability, safety, and all-weather confidence, plus the extra seating capacity that many Subaru models do not offer. The new Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery, which broadens its appeal if you want a more distinctive family hauler.

The market shows 28.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Subaru’s broader reputation for durability lines up with the Ascent’s role as a practical, family-focused SUV, and the expert assessment reinforces that it is built around safety and all-weather confidence. The turbocharged 2.4-litre engine, standard all-wheel drive, and CVT are presented as a cohesive, dependable package rather than a complicated one.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that you should pay close attention to how the driver-assistance systems behave in real-world use, especially if you rely on them heavily in daily driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Convenience, Touring, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Premier. The base trim gets the smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen, while Touring brings the 8-inch display and available connected services. The Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, special interior trim, and StarTex synthetic leather. If you want the most upscale equipment, Premier is the trim that adds features such as the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru’s boxer layout helps keep the centre of gravity low, and the CVT is described as especially good at keeping the engine in its torque band.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes an advanced adaptive cruise control system with lane-centring technology. Steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Touring trim or higher.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Touring adds an 8-inch display with available Starlink connected services, including remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning. The system keeps climate controls separate from the screen, which makes it easier to use than some newer setups.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Ascent at 10.5 L/100 km combined, with 11.7 L/100 km in the city and 9.0 L/100 km on the highway. In testing, it averaged 11.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Ascent’s core strengths at the lowest price. You still get the standard turbocharged engine, AWD, EyeSight, and the 6.5-inch touchscreen, so it covers the essentials well.
• Touring: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of equipment and value. It adds the 8-inch display, available Starlink connected services, and unlocks blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, making it the most sensible step up for many shoppers.
• Onyx Edition: Choose this if you want the most distinctive look in the lineup. It adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, StarTex upholstery, and a more youthful appearance, though it is not the best choice if you want the most comfort-focused cabin.
• Limited: This trim sits above the Onyx Edition and is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to Premier.
• Premier: This is the top choice if you want the most technology and convenience features, including the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.

For safety equipment, remember that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 146 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,615 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $30,799 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,560 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values do not rebound. The current range suggests the Ascent is still holding a meaningful share of its value, especially for a three-row SUV with standard AWD and strong safety credentials.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star crash-test ratings in all evaluations except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes numerous collision-avoidance and driving aids, including advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centring technology. Steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also standard. If you want blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, you need Touring trim or higher.

One caveat is that the camera-based system can struggle in low, direct sunlight, and the adaptive cruise control and lane-centring tech can feel less refined than you might expect.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Subaru’s new Onyx Edition gives this year a more distinctive look and adds water-resistant upholstery.

The bottom line: If you want the Ascent with the freshest 2022-specific update and a market that has softened, this is the year to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the current inventory and discounting to push for a better deal, but the 2022 remains the right pick when you want Subaru’s three-row formula with the added Onyx Edition choice.
