What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 Ram 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. Higher trims bring more upscale materials and equipment, while lower trims miss some of the luxury touches and convenience features that make the truck feel especially polished.
• Powertrain: You can find a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, an available 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, and the EcoDiesel turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel V6. The diesel is the efficiency-focused choice, while the V8s suit buyers who want more traditional truck character and stronger capability.
• Safety package: Starting from Big Horn trims, you get blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and the Advanced Safety Group, which bundles those features with a head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and parking assistance. Some safety features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade. Screen size is 8.4 inches on lower trims, with a 12-inch display available higher up. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, connected services, and WiFi access. OTA capability is not stated.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel test truck is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km. That makes it the efficiency standout in the lineup, though the engine’s upfront cost is a drawback.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Ram 1500’s core capability and are willing to give up the richer cabin materials, larger screens, and more advanced convenience features found higher up the range.
• Big Horn: This is the trim where the safety story starts to improve, since blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting here. It is a sensible step up if you want more everyday usability without jumping too far in price.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete equipment mix and is the point where 4WD becomes standard in Canada. It also marks the point where Uconnect 5 becomes standard, which is a meaningful tech upgrade.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more distinctive truck with a stronger personality and a trim that sits above the mainstream work-and-family focus.
• Laramie: This is the right move if you want a more premium-feeling cabin and a better balance of comfort and equipment.
• Limited Longhorn: Pick this if you want a more upscale, richly finished truck with a stronger luxury lean.
• Limited: This is the most polished all-round choice for buyers who want the nicest interior and the most premium feel without going all the way to the TRX’s extreme character.
• TRX: This is the performance flagship, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme truck in the lineup rather than the best value.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, focus on higher trims or trucks equipped with the relevant package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right truck.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,470 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,841 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,841 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,898 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. Strong demand for well-equipped full-size trucks should still help support values, especially for cleaner examples with desirable trims and options. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The Ram 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also receives four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger. It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on the starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trim levels are available with automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus the head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.

One caveat is that some helpful safety features are not standard on lower trims, so you may need to shop carefully if you want the fullest protection suite. The rear automatic braking system can also be overly sensitive in some driveway situations.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the updated Uconnect 5 infotainment system and a well-rounded mix of comfort, utility, and driving polish.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,181 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,841 CAD average.
• It adds a performance-focused TRX edge and a more aggressive personality.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,748 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,841 CAD average.
• It leans further into upscale comfort and refined road manners.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the strongest blend of comfort, tech, and value. If price is your top priority, the 2021 is the smarter path, while the 2023 makes sense if you want a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more for it.
