What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 RAM 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. The base grades are more limited on equipment, while higher trims add the richer cabin materials, larger touchscreen, and more premium features that make this truck feel especially upscale.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, an available 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, and the EcoDiesel turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel V6. The diesel is praised for its torque and efficiency, but it is also the priciest engine choice.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and the Advanced Safety Group, which also includes a head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade. Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can have a 12-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, connected services, and WiFi access.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel test truck is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km. That makes it the efficiency standout, but the engine’s higher purchase price means you should weigh fuel savings against upfront cost.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the RAM 1500 lineup and plan to keep things simple.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks useful safety equipment such as blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Sport: This is the trim where Uconnect 5 becomes standard, so it is a smart pick if you want the newer infotainment experience without jumping too far up the range.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more distinctive, capability-focused personality than the mainstream trims provide.
• Laramie: This is a strong choice if you want a more premium-feeling cabin and a better balance of comfort and equipment.
• Limited Longhorn: Pick this if you want a more upscale, richly finished truck with a luxury-leaning character.
• Limited: This is the most polished mainstream luxury choice, with the highest-end cabin presentation and the most premium feel in the regular lineup.
• TRX: This is the high-performance flagship, built for buyers who want the most extreme version of the RAM 1500.

Higher trims are available with the more advanced safety package, including automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and the Advanced Safety Group.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,628 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,106 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,106 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,858 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can make resale timing more important if you plan to sell later. If prices continue to normalise, future sellers may need to lean more heavily on condition, trim, and equipment to stand out.

At the same time, the truck’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2022 RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also has dual four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on the starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The Advanced Safety Group adds the head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.

There are also some caveats to keep in mind. The rear automatic braking system can be overly sensitive in some driveways, and LaneSense lane-keep assist can feel too insistent at times. The IIHS result also shows that the truck’s safety performance is strongest when it is equipped with all of its driver aids.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Uconnect 5 and Trailer Hitch Light updates for the year.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,488 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,106 CAD average.
• It brings the TRX performance headline and extra muscle.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,044 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,106 CAD average.
• It leans more upscale with a car-like feel and premium interior materials.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of comfort, tech, and market value, the 2022 is the strongest all-around choice. If price is your top priority, the 2021 is the better bargain; if you want a slightly more upscale feel, the 2023 is worth a look.
