Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The new engine and transmission are described as a healthy improvement, and the VC-Turbo setup is presented as a transparent mechanical system that changes compression ratio to balance power and efficiency.

The Rogue’s updated powertrain and strong owner satisfaction suggest manageable long-term ownership risk for used buyers, especially if you prioritise refinement and efficiency.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S is the entry point, while the SL and Platinum add LED foglamps, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and more upscale cabin materials. The base trim leaves out some of the higher-end convenience and display upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre VC-Turbo inline three-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new automatic transmission. It is tuned for stronger response and better efficiency than the previous engine.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. ProPilot Assist is available, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link adds navigation-linked predictive speed control.
• Infotainment: The Rogue has a 9-inch centre infotainment touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Wireless Apple CarPlay is available on upper trim levels, and the upper trims also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.8-inch head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption as low as 7.8 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 7.2 combined, or 8.4 city, 6.7 highway, and 7.6 combined with AWD.

Which 2022 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is offered in 5 trim levels: S, Nissan Rogue SV, SV Premium, Nissan Rogue SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Rogue, and it gives you the core safety suite, the new turbo engine, and the redesigned cabin. It makes sense if you want the Rogue’s fundamentals without paying for extra screens and luxury touches.
• Nissan Rogue SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the price in check. It also comes with standard AWD, making it a strong all-round choice if you want a balanced mix of value and capability.
• SV Premium: This trim adds more comfort and convenience equipment than the SV, but it is aimed at buyers who want a step up without going all the way to the luxury-focused upper trims.
• Nissan Rogue SL: This is the sweet spot in the lineup. You get the safety and convenience features, plus the 9-inch infotainment display with navigation, wireless CarPlay, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link without paying for the most expensive extras.
• Platinum: This is the top trim if you want the most upscale Rogue, including the digital dashboard, Bose premium audio system, wireless charging, and semi-aniline leather.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels, while ProPilot Assist and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link are available on higher trims.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 971 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.72% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,681 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $22,681 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,910 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current discount gives you a lower entry cost, which can help protect your ownership position. Strong efficiency, broad appeal, and a well-regarded ownership experience should help keep demand steady.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the new 1.5-litre turbo engine and updated transmission for stronger efficiency and response.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,433 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,681 CAD average.
• It offers the redesigned Rogue’s new platform and broad value across the range.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $26,689 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,681 CAD average.
• It adds a Midnight Edition package on the SV for a darker exterior look.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated powertrain, efficiency, and market pricing, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains the value alternative; if you want a newer-feeling appearance package, the 2023 is the step up to consider.
