Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The Rogue’s updated powertrain and platform changes support a strong case for day-to-day dependability, and the expert assessment highlights a smooth, controlled ride with a new engine and transmission that work well together. The variable-compression turbo engine is described as transparent in operation, which is a good sign for predictable ownership.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about choosing the right trim and condition so you get the equipment and efficiency you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most basic version, while higher trims add more convenience and luxury equipment. The SL and Platinum trims also bring LED foglamps, and upper trims add the larger digital display setup.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline three-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new transmission. It is tuned for stronger response and better efficiency than the previous setup.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. ProPilot Assist is available, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link adds navigation-linked predictive speed control.
• Infotainment: Upper trims get a 9-inch centre touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a 10.8-inch head-up display. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay is available on upper trim levels.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption as low as 7.8 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 7.2 combined with front-wheel drive, or 8.4 city, 6.7 highway, and 7.6 combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2022 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SV Premium, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core safety suite and the new turbocharged powertrain at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the Rogue’s fundamentals without paying for extras.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience while staying below the pricier luxury-oriented versions. It is the trim to focus on if you want a balanced mix of equipment and value.
• SV Premium: This trim adds more comfort and convenience content for buyers who want a step up from the SV without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• SL: This is the sweet spot in the lineup. You get the safety and convenience features, plus the 9-inch infotainment display with navigation, wireless CarPlay, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link without paying for the most expensive extras.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale Rogue, with the most premium equipment in the lineup. It suits you if you want the most fully loaded version and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trims, so even the base model starts with a strong safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 979 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.21% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,441 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $22,449 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,792 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Rogue easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller in the near term. If you own one, the softer pricing means you should expect resale to depend heavily on trim, mileage, condition, and equipment. Well-equipped examples should still attract attention because the Rogue remains a popular compact SUV with strong efficiency and safety credentials.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and new transmission.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,359 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,449 CAD average.
• It was redesigned from the top down and offers broad improvements across the range.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $26,562 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,449 CAD average.
• It adds a Midnight Edition package on the SV for a darker exterior look.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the updated turbo engine, strong safety, and a softer used-market price than the 2023. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want the newest styling touch, the 2023 is the step up.
