Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE reliable?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is presented as a refined, well-equipped luxury SUV that leans heavily into comfort and technology. Its performance setup is described as robust, with a turbocharged inline-six and mild-hybrid assistance designed to add power when needed and help conserve fuel. The expert notes also point to a sophisticated drivetrain and suspension package that should support confident everyday use.

Mercedes also includes maintenance-friendly ownership touches in the broader package, including a strong emphasis on efficiency support from the mild-hybrid system.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its complexity and premium hardware can make upkeep more demanding than a simpler SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The coupe body style brings a lower roofline and a more distinctive look, but it also means you should check whether the styling trade-off suits your needs. The cabin is described as sumptuous, with high-end materials and a high-tech appearance, but the layout can feel complex at first.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6 makes 429 hp and 384 pound-feet of torque, and EQ Boost adds 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance. It is paired with a SpeedShift nine-speed automatic and AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: The Intelligent Drive Package adds 13 driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems. Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Pre Safe Sound.
• Infotainment: MBUX uses dual 12.3-inch screens, including a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen. Standard features include navigation, satellite radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mercedes Me connected services. Wireless smartphone charging is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the test vehicle should have consumed 12.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test result was 12.7 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 3 trim levels: GLE 350 4Matic, GLE 450 4Matic, AMG GLE 53 Coupe.

Here's the short version:

• GLE 350 4Matic: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the most accessible way into the GLE lineup with standard all-wheel drive in Canada.
• GLE 450 4Matic: This middle trim is the sensible step up if you want more equipment and a stronger balance of value and capability.
• AMG GLE 53 Coupe: This is the performance-focused choice, with the coupe body style, the AMG-tuned powertrain, and the most dramatic character in the range.

The Intelligent Drive Package is the safety add-on to prioritise if you want the fullest driver-assistance coverage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 256 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $57,418 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?

The current average of $58,988 CAD sits slightly below last year's $64,998 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about market expectations. If prices remain below prior-year levels, resale values may stay under pressure in the near term. On the other hand, a well-kept example with desirable equipment should still attract attention in a premium SUV market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is based on the standard GLE, which gets top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes equips it with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Pre Safe Sound. If you want the fullest suite of driver assistance, the Intelligent Drive Package adds 13 additional systems related to driver assistance and collision avoidance.

One caveat is that route-based speed adaption can be irritating because it automatically slows the vehicle for curves, ramps, tolls, and other map-based recommendations.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines a distinctive coupe shape with strong technology and a high expert safety score.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $54,611 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $58,988 CAD average.
• It offers broad everyday appeal with a comfort- and technology-first focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $67,288 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $58,988 CAD average.
• It adds a subtle refresh with updated styling and infotainment.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, safety, and current pricing, the 2022 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better price-sensitive alternative, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer refresh and can pay more.
