overall

Summary
With 50 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,344 CAD, 34.0% of 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out by delivering intrinsic value in a compact-car package, especially when measured against traditional mainstream alternatives. It also benefits from Mazda’s reputation for making desirable cars, and this year brings a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour. For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the MAZDA3 combines stylish design, enjoyable driving manners, and strong safety ratings in a way that gives it a more premium feel than many rivals.
That said, the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is not without compromises. Its fuel economy is poor, the back seat is cramped, and its technology can be unintuitive. Even so, those drawbacks do not erase the car’s core strengths, and the overall impression is of a compact model that prioritises style, driving enjoyment, and value over outright practicality.

This car is beautiful, so far no problems reliability-wise, to be expected from a tried-and-true NA 4 cyl paired to a traditional automatic transmission (no cvt unlike the current corolla and civic autos!). This car drives great for what it is. Speaking for the FWD model, handling is direct and predictable and has good feedback even with stock tires (215/45r18s on my trim). Even though this car isn’t as powerful as the turbo model, it’s fast enough to still be very enjoyable to drive. At 6’0, I surprisingly fit in the backseat of the hatch even with the front seat all the way back (not super comfortably though) and my head doesn’t touch the ceiling. Would recommend anybody interested to test drive this car.

I love this car because of its simple yet luxurious interior and it’s smooth drive. Also love the 6 speed. Perfect daily driver with room for modifications.

By far the best car in its class for performance, luxury, and technology. The turbo engine combined with already excellent handling takes the already popular Mazda 3 to an elevated level.

I love the comfort of the interior, the seats molds around your body. It has a lot of nice features that I was looking for, sunroof, keyless entry,,heater seats and a great Bose stereo that blows your mind. I wish it came with a bigger spoiler of a different color than the car. My biggest change would be to put a black package on them. They look silly with black wheels and chrome trim, I am adding aftermarket black trim everywhere. The only other thing Is, I wish it looked a little more sporty. I bought the turbo and it has plenty of kick but could have used a little bit of a different design than the regular model. For the 32k price range it was a good value in today’s market if it was a little sportier looking.

How much does the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,620 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $22,607 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $25,004 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,004 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.54% |
Prices have softened 9.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 164 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.67/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable, luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The car also earns credit for its technology and available Bose stereo system, while its stylish design helps it feel more premium than many compact-car rivals.
The trade-offs are familiar ones: the back seat is cramped, and the technology can be unintuitive. Even so, the MAZDA3 makes sense if you want a compact car that prioritises style, driving enjoyment, and value over maximum practicality.
Listings availability is healthy, with 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with praise for the car’s comfortable cabin and strong overall ownership experience. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the car as one you can trust when driven hard, with a calm, composed character and solid day-to-day behaviour.
Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years of ownership, which adds some ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with the car’s less-friendly technology and, on turbo models, the demands of frequent fuel stops.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans sedan and hatchback body styles, with three trim levels in each. Base versions are the most affordable, but they leave out much of the advanced safety equipment that you may want to have.
- Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder. The base engine is the most fuel-conscious, while the turbo adds the strongest performance but uses more fuel.
- Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights cost extra. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can help offset the system’s less intuitive operation, and Mazda Connected Services is included for two years.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre engine uses 7.6 L/100 km combined, or 7.7 L/100 km with the manual. The 2.5-litre non-turbo ranges from 7.8 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, while the turbo uses 8.8 L/100 km in sedan form or 8.9 L/100 km in hatchback form.
Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GS, GT.
Here's the short version:
- GX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest purchase price and the base 2.0-litre engine. It is the simplest choice, but you give up much of the richer equipment and safety content found higher up the range.
- GS: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and gives you a more balanced mix of equipment and everyday usability. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to focus on.
- GT: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete equipment list, including the extra safety and convenience features mentioned in the test drive notes. It suits you best if you want the most premium-feeling MAZDA3 experience.
GT grades get adaptive front headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel, plus Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 164 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,607 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $22,620 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,004 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it means you may not see the same pricing strength that was present a year ago, especially if the market stays soft.
Even so, the MAZDA3’s strong owner satisfaction and premium feel should help it remain appealing to shoppers who want a compact car with style and substance.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and the IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick+.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights are extra. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,398 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,620 CAD average.
- It adds turbocharged performance to Mazda’s compact-car lineup.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $25,252 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,620 CAD average.
- It brings a more upscale feel and added hatchback usefulness.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and desirability at today’s pricing. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better budget play; if you want a newer-feeling cabin and can spend more, the 2023 is worth a look.
