What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point, while LX Nightsky adds a more distinctive appearance and the EX brings more equipment, including a standard panoramic sunroof. If you want the best balance of equipment and value, the EX is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, while the SX adds a turbocharged engine with 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard on the LX FWD, and all-wheel drive is available or standard on the other grades.
• Safety package: The EX and SX include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is also included on those grades and on the LX Nightsky.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add UVO Intelligence connected services, satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the provided data.

Which 2022 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sportage is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX Nightsky, EX, EX Premium S, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the Sportage, but it is best if you mainly want the basics and are comfortable giving up the extra safety and convenience features found higher up the range.
• LX Nightsky: This trim adds a more distinctive look and brings blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, making it a smarter pick than the LX if you want a little more confidence and equipment without jumping too far in price.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the key safety suite, a standard panoramic sunroof, and wireless smartphone charging.
• EX Premium S: This trim sits above the EX and is worth considering if you want a more upscale equipment mix, though the provided data does not spell out a unique feature set for it.
• SX: This is the performance-leaning choice, with the turbocharged engine, standard AWD, upgraded brakes, larger wheels, and premium audio. It suits you best if you want the quickest and most fully equipped version.

The safety package is standard on the EX and SX, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert also appears on the LX Nightsky.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 518 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,928 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $21,928 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,284 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more attractive level today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying a well-kept example at a strong price so you have less depreciation to absorb.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2022 Kia Sportage earns an Acceptable headlight rating from IIHS and is described as a safe SUV.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The EX and SX grades include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is also included on those grades and on the LX Nightsky, while the SX adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

One caveat is that only the SX earns the Acceptable headlight rating mentioned in the safety review, so trim choice matters if you want the strongest safety package.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends current-feeling tech with a turbocharged SX option and a strong safety package.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,366 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,928 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned look, a more spacious cabin, and more impressive technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because pricing is softer and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for a newer-generation design and a more modern cabin, the 2023 is the better long-term choice. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2022 remains the more compelling path.
