What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point, while the LX Nightsky adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. The EX adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance, plus a standard panoramic sunroof for this year. The EX Premium S and SX sit higher in the range, with the SX adding the most equipment and the strongest performance. If you want the best value, the EX is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
• Powertrain: Most Sportages use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. The SX upgrades to a turbocharged setup with 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The EX and SX include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is also included on those trims and the LX Nightsky. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability is added on the SX.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SX adds UVO Intelligence connected services, satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The system is easy to use, but the screen is small by modern standards and smartphone mirroring is wired rather than wireless.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2022 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sportage is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX Nightsky, EX, EX Premium S, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the starting point if you want the Sportage’s core design and basic infotainment without paying for extra equipment.
• LX Nightsky: Choose this if you want the added blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert that isn’t part of the base LX.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the main driver-assistance features, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a standard panoramic sunroof.
• EX Premium S: Pick this if you want a step up from the EX and are shopping for a more equipped middle ground.
• SX: This is the one to buy if you want the turbocharged engine, standard AWD, adaptive cruise control, and the richest feature set.

The safety package is strongest on the EX and SX, while the LX Nightsky adds a useful safety upgrade over the base LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, especially if you’re comparing listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 511 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,816 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $21,816 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,233 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Sportage has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price it competitively. The current market also shows that demand is still present, so a well-kept example should remain saleable.

For you as a seller, the key takeaway is that condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when you go to list it. A cleaner, better-equipped Sportage should stand out more clearly in a market where prices have already eased.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sportage safe?

The Kia Sportage earns an Acceptable headlight rating from IIHS, which is enough for an IIHS Top Safety Pick laurel.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The EX and SX trims include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is also included on those trims and on the LX Nightsky, while the SX adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

The main caveat is that only the SX earns the Acceptable headlight rating mentioned above, so trim choice affects the safety story.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It offers a familiar design with up-to-date technology and available turbocharged performance.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,345 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,816 CAD average.
• It brings a more distinctive design and a roomier, more modern-feeling cabin.

The bottom line: choose the 2022 if you want the better value and a proven, well-equipped compact SUV. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package and stronger visual appeal, the 2023 is the better upgrade path.
