What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX+ and LX Premium trims use the 8-inch touchscreen and are described as less richly equipped than higher versions, while the X-Line adds more presence and the SX brings features such as the Blind View Monitor and premium audio. If you want the best value, the mid-grade trims are worth a close look because they add meaningful equipment without jumping all the way to the top end.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder is described as unremarkable, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre is much more satisfying and comes with stronger performance. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid are also part of the lineup if efficiency matters more to you than outright pace.
• Safety package: The Sorento offers a range of advanced safety tech, including rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Blind View Monitor on the SX, and Highway Driving Assist. Some features are not available on every trim, so it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance items are included on the vehicle you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and EX use an 8-inch touchscreen, while other trims get a 10.25-inch display with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base system offers Bluetooth and wireless smartphone integration, while the larger screen requires a USB connection for app connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says to expect 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving with the base engine and 9.9 L/100 km with the turbo engine. The hybrid is rated at 6.6 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid can travel 51 km on electricity before returning 3.0 Le/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2022 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX+: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials, but the base setup is also the one most clearly described as lacking some features and comfort compared with rivals. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sorento, but it is not the trim that best shows off the model’s strengths.
• LX Premium: This trim adds a wireless phone charger and keeps the Sorento’s value story moving in the right direction. If you want a better-equipped daily driver without stretching too far, this is the trim that looks like the best-value choice.
• X-Line: This trim brings the more satisfying turbocharged 2.5-litre engine and a stronger overall driving character. It is the right pick if you care more about performance and a more upscale presence than about sticking to the lowest price.
• SX: This is the most feature-rich version in the data, with the Blind View Monitor and the 12-speaker Bose premium surround-sound system. Choose it if you want the most complete Sorento experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes Highway Driving Assist, rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, and Blind View Monitor on the SX, while the LED headlights are a noted weak point because they receive a Poor rating and are standard on all trims in Canada.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.58% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,722 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $27,722 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,454 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favour, which can make the Sorento easier to shop now but may also mean a future seller has less room to command a premium. If you buy at today’s average, your resale outlook will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim. Well-equipped versions with strong demand should hold up better than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2022 Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal-impact protection for the driver and front passenger and in rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento’s safety tech includes rear-seat reminder, Junction Assist, Blind View Monitor on the SX, and Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist to help maintain speed and lane position. One caveat is the LED headlight result: the standard Canadian headlights receive a Poor rating, which is the main safety shortcoming to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year stands out for the arrival of the Sorento Hybrid and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid in Canada, adding more efficient choices to the lineup.

The bottom line: The 2022 Sorento is a strong pick if you want the redesigned look, broad powertrain choice, and a market that currently favours shoppers. If you’re price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years, but the 2022 is the one to target when you want the updated package and better inventory leverage.
