What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX+ and LX Premium use the 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get the 10.25-inch display with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The base setup also includes Bluetooth and wireless smartphone integration, while the larger screen requires a cable for app connectivity. The SX is the trim that gets the 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, and the LX Premium adds a wireless phone charger.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 191 hp and is described as sluggish, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder delivers 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid are the efficiency-focused alternatives, with the plug-in hybrid able to travel 51 kilometres on electricity before switching to hybrid operation.
• Safety package: The Sorento offers Junction Assist, rear-seat reminder, Highway Driving Assist, and a Blind View Monitor that is exclusive to the SX. Highway Driving Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist to help maintain speed and lane position.
• Infotainment: The LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and EX have an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, satellite radio, Kia Connect services, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger screen does not support wireless app connectivity.

Which 2022 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX+: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials, including the 8-inch touchscreen and the standard 191 hp engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sorento, but it is also the trim most likely to feel short on features compared with the rest of the lineup.
• LX Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a wireless phone charger while keeping the Sorento’s core family-friendly strengths intact. If you want a sensible step up without chasing the highest-priced equipment, this is the trim to focus on.
• X-Line: This trim brings the more satisfying turbocharged 2.5-litre engine, along with the stronger performance that comes with it. It is the right choice if you care more about driving feel and extra punch than about staying near the bottom of the price range.
• SX: This is the most feature-rich choice, with the 12-speaker Bose audio system and the Blind View Monitor. It suits you best if you want the Sorento’s most advanced convenience and visibility tech.

The safety package includes Highway Driving Assist, Junction Assist, rear-seat reminder, and a Blind View Monitor that is exclusive to the SX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 314 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,666 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $27,666 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,427 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Sorento has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to move later if you buy at the right number. For a future seller, the softer market means you may not recover as much as earlier owners did, especially if you pay near the top of the range today. Still, the model’s broad family appeal and strong feature set should help it remain relevant with shoppers who want a practical midsize SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2022 Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA. In frontal-impact testing, it gets four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger, and it also earns a four-star rating for rollover resistance. In all other NHTSA assessments, it gets five-star ratings.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento’s safety equipment includes Junction Assist, rear-seat reminder, Highway Driving Assist, and a Blind View Monitor that is exclusive to the SX. Highway Driving Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist to help keep the SUV centred and at a safe following distance.

One caveat is that the LED headlights receive a Poor rating from the IIHS, and that rating applies to the standard Canadian setup across all trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for the arrival of the Sorento Hybrid and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid in Canada, giving you more efficient choices in the lineup.

The bottom line: The 2022 is a strong pick if you want the redesigned Sorento with broader powertrain choice and a softer used-market price than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a similar Sorento can save you more while still giving you the features you want.
