Is the 2022 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Kia Carnival earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the spaciousness, innovative technology, and comfort, and many appreciate the unique features that help it stand apart from other vehicles in its class. That lines up well with Kia’s pitch: this is a family-focused multi-purpose vehicle that aims to feel more upscale and distinctive than a typical minivan. If you want a practical people mover with a more stylish personality, the Carnival fits that brief well.

The market also looks supportive, with 24.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Kia Carnival reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, with the kind of innovative technology that can make daily use feel easy to live with. The expert evaluation also describes the Carnival as cost-effective for family hauling, which supports the idea that it should be a dependable long-term choice if you value practicality and comfort.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the Carnival’s size, van-like shape, and feature complexity suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX and LX+ use the standard grille and 17-inch aluminium wheels, while EX adds a more upscale look with 19-inch machined-finish wheels, simulated open-pore wood trim, and SynTex simulated leather. EX trims and up also swap in a mirrored grid-pattern grille, and SX adds black wheels, textured metal dashboard trim, real leather, and VIP Lounge Seats. The base trims are the ones most likely to feel stripped back compared with the higher versions.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. There is no all-wheel drive or electrified powertrain option, so you should buy this model for smooth, effortless family transport rather than alternative-drivetrain flexibility.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure and keeping assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, and a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines. EX adds front parking sensors, active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, active rear cross-traffic warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. EX+ adds navigation-based adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: LX uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and six speakers. EX+ brings a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system with HD Radio, SiriusXM, voice recognition, navigation, an embedded modem for UVO Link connected services, wireless smartphone charging, and eight speakers. EX+ and SX also add a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while SX gets a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says it should use 10.6 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 10.8 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Carnival is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Carnival’s core space, styling, and safety equipment, plus the 8-inch touchscreen and basic connectivity. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least richly equipped version.
• LX+: This trim keeps the same basic formula but adds some extra convenience and equipment over LX, making it a better starting point if you want a little more comfort without jumping too far up the range.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the most meaningful everyday upgrades, including front parking sensors, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic safety tech, adaptive cruise control, and a more upscale cabin presentation.
• EX+: This is the tech-forward sweet spot if you want the larger 12.3-inch infotainment system, navigation, wireless charging, surround-view camera, Blind View Monitor, and the digital instrument cluster.
• SX: This is the most luxurious version, with real leather, VIP Lounge Seats, black wheels, textured metal trim, and the 12-speaker Bose audio system. It suits you best if you want the most premium Carnival experience.

Safe Exit Assist is included on EX and up, while the surround-view camera system and Blind View Monitor start with EX+.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Carnival?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.

• Deal availability: 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.46% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,405 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $31,290 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,156 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The Carnival’s broad appeal, strong comfort, and family-friendly packaging should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want something more distinctive than a conventional minivan. Its current pricing also suggests there may be less room for appreciation in the near term unless supply tightens.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Kia’s all-new design, VIP seating, and strong technology make this year feel especially distinctive.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,288 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $31,290 CAD average.
• It refines the Carnival’s stylish MPV identity and keeps the same practical, family-friendly formula.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and the feature set is still strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2023 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2022.
