What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Laredo gets the essentials, but higher trims add the richer interior materials, larger screens, and more premium features that make this SUV feel special. If you want the most complete luxury experience, the Summit and Summit Reserve stand out.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 or a 5.7-litre V8, both with an eight-speed automatic. The V6 is the more common choice, but the V8 brings stronger performance and is reserved for higher trims.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors. Automatic parking, intersection collision assist, driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, and four-zone climate control come standard on the Summit trims, with some of those features optional on other trims.
• Infotainment: Upper trims bring dual high-resolution screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and two-phone connectivity. The available tech suite also includes a head-up display and night vision on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 13.0 L/100 km in the city, 9.4 on the highway, and 11.3 combined. The V8 is rated at 16.7 L/100 km city, 10.9 highway, and 14.1 combined.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 4 trim levels: Laredo, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Grand Cherokee L experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the space, standard safety tech, and Jeep character without stretching into luxury-trim pricing.
• Overland: This is the best-value trim if you want a more premium feel without going all the way to the top. It also unlocks the V8 and can be paired with the Off-Road Group, which adds all-terrain capability and the Trail-Rated badge.
• Summit: This is where the Grand Cherokee L starts leaning hard into luxury and convenience, with features like automatic parking, intersection collision assist, driver attention monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and four-zone climate control.
• Summit Reserve: This is the most lavish choice, with the richest interior appointments and the 19-speaker McIntosh audio system. It suits you if you want the most upscale version of the Grand Cherokee L.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some advanced features are concentrated in the Summit trims or optional on other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 222 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,446 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $36,447 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,538 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone. Well-equipped examples with strong appeal should still draw interest, but the current trend favours buyers more than sellers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L safe?

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes driver and passenger knee airbags, trailer sway control, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors. Higher trims add more advanced assistance features, including automatic parking, intersection collision assist, driver attention monitoring, and traffic sign recognition. If you want the most advanced driver-assistance setup, some of those features are concentrated on the Summit trims or offered as options elsewhere.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends premium interior appeal with strong three-row practicality and available V8 power.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,082 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $36,447 CAD average.
• It adds higher prices and new competitors.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the path to consider.
