What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Laredo is the entry point, while the Summit and Summit Reserve add more chrome, larger wheels, black roofs, and a more luxurious interior presentation. Lower trims also get simpler six-speaker or nine-speaker stereos, while the Summit Reserve brings the 19-speaker McIntosh system.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-litre V6 or a 5.7-litre V8, both with an eight-speed automatic and standard 4WD in Canada. The V6 is the efficiency pick, but the expert notes it can feel underpowered in this heavy SUV, while the V8 is stronger but thirstier.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors. Active Driving Assist is available on upper trims, and some features such as automatic parking, intersection collision assist, driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, and four-zone climate control are standard on Summit trims and optional on others.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and two phones can be connected at once. Upper trims add larger screens and more premium tech, including a head-up display and night vision.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 13.0 L/100 km in the city, 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.3 L/100 km combined. The V8 is rated at 16.7 L/100 km city, 10.9 L/100 km highway, and 14.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 4 trim levels: Laredo, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-focused starting point, but it is also the most basic version of the Grand Cherokee L experience. If you want the three-row layout and Jeep styling at the lowest entry price, this is the trim to start with.
• Overland: This is the best-value choice if you want a more complete Grand Cherokee L. It is the trim that can be paired with the Off-Road Group, which adds all-terrain tyres, skid plates, smaller 18-inch wheels, and the Trail-Rated badge.
• Summit: This trim is where the Grand Cherokee L starts leaning hard into luxury. It adds features such as automatic parking, intersection collision assist, driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, and four-zone climate control.
• Summit Reserve: This is the most lavish version, with the 19-speaker McIntosh audio system and the richest interior presentation. It suits you best if you want the most premium Grand Cherokee L experience.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that the Trail-Rated off-road setup is tied to the Overland trim with the Off-Road Group option package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 237 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,232 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $36,256 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,637 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they bought at a lower price point. It also means buyers today may be entering at a more favourable valuation than shoppers were a year ago.

If prices stabilise, that could support resale values for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L safe?

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes driver and passenger knee airbags, trailer sway control, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors. Active Driving Assist is available on upper trims, and some advanced features are standard only on Summit trims or optional elsewhere.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines a luxury-minded cabin with Jeep’s distinctive three-row character.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $40,993 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $36,256 CAD average.
• It brings higher prices and newer competitors into the mix.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.
