How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 73 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of choice if you’re comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

It stands out as an approachable EV that feels familiar rather than futuristic, and it pairs that easygoing character with strong handling and a fun-to-drive personality. The value proposition is a major part of the appeal, especially if you want an electric crossover that feels accessible.

The main trade-offs are practical ones: the back seat is cramped and cargo space is limited, so it suits you best if you care more about efficiency, drivability, and affordability than maximum room. With 19.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Kona Electric is presented as a straightforward, familiar EV with a simple interior layout and a powertrain that is described as excellent for regular use. Its standard battery warmer also helps in cold weather by speeding charging and reducing charge loss in winter mode.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about EV-specific wear, so you should pay close attention to battery condition, charging behaviour, and how the vehicle has been used over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred trim gives you the essentials, while the Ultimate adds niceties such as LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, LED interior lights, eight-way power adjustment and lumbar adjustment for the driver’s seat, heated rear seats, wireless device charging, a larger touchscreen, and a premium audio system.
• Powertrain: You get a 150-kW electric motor with 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque, sent to the front wheels. It is described as quick around town and efficient for everyday use.
• Safety package: SmartSense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-following assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot warning and collision avoidance, and rear cross-traffic alert. Front parking sensors, high beam assist, and Highway Driving Assist are added on the Ultimate.
• Infotainment: The Preferred trim uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Ultimate gets a 10.25-inch display, but wireless smartphone mirroring is not included on that larger screen.
• Range & charging: The battery is 64 kWh, the driving range is 415 kilometres, level 2 home charging takes nine hours 15 minutes, and DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 47 minutes.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, ask how often the car has been charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains. For a used EV, that diligence matters more than cosmetic wear.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the best-value choice if you want the Kona Electric’s core strengths without paying extra for luxury touches. You still get the efficient powertrain, the standard SmartSense safety suite, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the approachable, easy-to-use cabin layout.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the more complete package. It adds the larger touchscreen, premium audio, more comfort and convenience features, and extra driver-assistance equipment, making it the better pick if you plan to keep the vehicle longer and want a more upscale daily experience.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Ultimate adds front parking sensors, high beam assist, and Highway Driving Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 19.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 73 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• If you find a listing below $22,731 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric's resale value?

The current average of $24,478 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,567 CAD.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. It also means buyers are not being pushed into a sharply rising price environment, so well-priced examples should remain competitive.

For a future seller, that kind of steady pricing usually points to predictable demand rather than dramatic swings. If you maintain the vehicle well and keep battery health strong, you should be able to position it competitively when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric safe?

The Kona Electric comes equipped with a variety of advanced driver assistance systems under the SmartSense umbrella, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-following assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot warning and collision avoidance, and rear cross-traffic alert.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Ultimate trim adds front parking sensors for the automatic emergency braking system, high beam assist, and Highway Driving Assist, so you get a more complete safety and convenience package if you step up. Neither NHTSA nor IIHS has crash-tested the 2022 Kona Electric, so there is no crash-test result to lean on for this model year.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 19.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Hyundai’s 2022 updates, including new exterior features and a streamlined trim lineup, help keep it feeling fresh.

The bottom line: If you want the most approachable version of the Kona Electric’s formula, the 2022 is the one to target because it balances value, range, and everyday usability well. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-priced listings and compare them carefully against nearby model years to see whether the equipment mix better suits your needs.
